    2. My first suggestion for you would be to get in touch with the Registrar at your local NSDAR chapter or the one nearest to you. She can give you direction. To check to see if he gave beef, etc., to the Army, check to see if there is a book called Virginia ' Publik" Claims for Augusta Co. by Janice Abercrombie. She has compiled the lists for many Virginia Counties. And I guess you may have already gone to the DAR site, downloaded the form used to request a copy of record for this Patriot. Most Public Libraries have the DAR Patriot Index. You can check there for his Revolutionary Service Rank, wife's name, state in which he served. And as a previous post said, you must obtain proof of birth, marriage and death for each generation from yourself back to the Patriot which means searching all kinds of Court House Records, Church Records, Land Records, Cemetery Records Obituaries etc. Any record showing a connection between generations and your link to this Patriot. It's lengthy but fun to do. JKM

    3. Julie, I have a copy of the Janice Abercrombie "Virginia 'Publick' Claims Augusta County". I checked for your Spencer Lehue. I did not find him. The closest I came was an Abrm. Lerue who is credited with providing 1 beef worth 430 pounds. This was in the "Augusta County Lists I - Acct. of Provisions purchased and Impressed by Henry [illeg] Commissr. For the County of Augusta being for the use of Col. White's Regt. Of Light Dragoons, the prisoners of War and [illeg] in Staunton, also the militia...of whom collected from 28 Feb. 1781 until the 23rd June 1781." (pages 10-11). Given the many things that could happen with the surname Lehue, I also checked for a given name of Spencer. I did this also for the Rockbridge County and Rockingham County Public Claims. I am sorry, but I did not find anything for Spencer Lehue in any variety of spellings. If I can help you further, please let me know.
