There are no birth records before 1853 in Augusta Co. I was hoping to find something in church or other records to narrow this down. The closest I have gotten is a census record: (let me look back at your report to remember....) 1820 Augusta Co, VA Census: 1810-1820-1830 U.S. Census , Augusta County, Virginia, self-pub, S-K Publications, PO Box 8173, Wichita KS 67208-0173, SKcensus.com. (This reference shows copies of actual census pages.) p. 11B in index, but found on p. 20-21: Christopher Schrock-- 6 males under 5; 1 male 5-10; 1 male 26-45; 1 female 16-24 and 1 female over 45, noting foreigner not naturalized [NOTE: Chrisopher's birthdate would be between 1775-1794; your date for him is 1780 which fits with your record.] 1830 Augusta Co, VA: 1810-1820-1830 U.S. Census , Augusta County, Virginia, self-pub, S-K Publications, PO Box 8173, Wichita KS 67208-0173, SKcensus.com. (This reference shows copies of actual census pages.) p. 105 Sarah Shrock-1 female 5-10, 1 female 30-40 [NOTE: Sarah's birth would be 1790-1800, your date for her is 1788.] With the data so far, this is the closest I could get. I have tried to access birth records for Va. from 1804 without success. I'm assuming another $200.00 would, hopefully, wrap up the available information. I have been working on your report for 5 hrs since 4:30 this afternoon, and can send you what I have found so far, or can continue with what I believe to be needed search for a comprehensive search. I have conducted a library search of reference books and published court records from 1782-1850. I now would like to go to the Staunton Courthouse to see if indeed there is a marriage record, and any other documents (deeds, etc.). (I have not found that that the marriage is published.) I also would like to conduct another library search on the Rockingham County records, as I have simply been working on Augusta County. I have not found much. I actually think a search of both courthouses (Staunton and Augusta) are in order if you will allow the additional search. I think another 8-10 hrs would complete all I feel would be worthy of a comprehensive report based on your quest. I have not begun the Cate/Cade search as yet but hope that to be more prolific. Even though my findings are slight to date, your report is now 17 pages. With Monday a holiday, the one day I would have this week is Tuesday to go to the courthouses for your project. If you agree to continue, I will be able to finish your report with my findings, and send to you by the end of the week. Please let me hear from you, as I have your file open on my desk, with 30 clients still waiting. :)) Janie On 10/6/07 9:38 AM, "sungoat@cox.net" <69sungoat@cox.net> wrote: Janie To update my file I have received documents from the National Archives showing Christopher Shrocks service in the Va. Militia during the War of 1812. Since I am in the process of making application to the War of 1812 Society what I really need from your area is proof that John Shrock, born 1804, Staunton, Va. is the son of Christopher and Sarah Shrock. I have an 1820 Federal Census from Waynesboro Township, Augusta, Va. listing Christopher Shrock with 6 hiusehold members but no individual names. A marriage certificate for Christopher and Sara would be helpful to fill in information as to Sarah and her family name but a birth cert. for John Shrock listing Christopher as his father looks to be essential to establish the necessary connection for the War of 1812 Society membership. Please advise.
