The National Genealogical Society Conference just held at Richmond, Virginia was wonderful. The syllabus included excellent notes from many of the workshops I didn't have time to attend. I recommend especially Leslie Smith Collier on Estate Sales (listed as S-213). Her "notes" are 3 full pages on how to get the most from estate sale documents. For instance, the etiquette of estate sales which may reveal family lines: "If the first buyer is a woman, she is very probably the widow (and could even have remarried if the timing of the sale allows). Adult children often purchase immediately after the widow." Workshops from this conference and previous ones are available on tape from Repeat Performance, 2911 Crabapple Lane, Hobart IN 46342 (219) 465-1234. (you might ask for a catalog.)
