Judy & Joyce, I don't know whether this will help or not, but my ancestor, John Lewis, was the founder of Staunton, and was from Ireland. There were at least 3 other John Lewis's in Virginia during that time -- mine was called "The Irish John Lewis". He was from Donegal County, Ireland. His mother is believed to have been Scottish.
