On 16 Oct 1792 a petition (signed by 193 Germans from Augusta Co.) was submitted to the Virginia General Assembly. The purpose of this request was... due to their ignorance of the English language, they could not become acquainted with the proceedings of the General Assembly. They requested that a sufficient number of laws of the commonwealth be (also) printed in German. "A Calendar of Legislative Petitions (Richmond, 1908), I, 146 (A 1165, October 16, 1792). I mention this petition because...with 193 German represented it, it is possible one of "our" Augusta Co., ancestor's signature may be shown on this document.
