Hi Linda: This all sounds familiar, have I corresponded with you before? There is not much happening on this list, so I'll tell another Koiner story. Do we know anything about the Koiners in Augusta County? The list would say more than they want to know. Michael Alexander Coiner was the son of James Harvey, son of Michael Coiner, son of Casper - Casper was the 6th child of Michael and Margaret (Diller) Keinadt. He came from Germany in 1747, we have Keinaths in Germany back to 1540. The names Michael's family uses in the US are Koiner, Koyner, Coiner, Coyner, Kyner, Kiner, older variations are Keiner, Keinert, and others - Comer, Criner, Conner, Koinor, Coinor, more rarely. Casper was born 2/25/1764 and died 10/3/1856, he was married to Margaret Barger in 1787. Most of the Coiners and Koiners left in Augusta county today are from this branch of Michael and Margaret's family. They had 14 children, 12 had issue. Michael, son of Casper was born 10/8/1790, he died 6/1/1863 from attack by a "cross bull". He served in the War of 1812 under Captain Link. He married Catherine, dau. of George Michael, brother to Casper. This Michael and Catherine were first cousins. She was born 1798, died 7/23/1866, their children were: William, James Harvey, Franklin, Franklin, Elizabeth, Susan, Margaret, David, Mary, John Calvin and Samuel Luther. James H. was born 3/15/1820 and died 8/7/1874, he married Mary Adaline Keller, dau. of Lewis. Their issue: James Webster, Cornelius J, Michael A., T. Jefferson Stuart, Clemenza Bell, Rebecca Frances and Sarah Catherine. James W. md. Mary Stover (Stoever - Stober) and they emigrated to Calif. Cornelius md. Viola Long, dau. of Joseph and Sarah Long, their issue: Hallie and Shelton. Lived in Waynesboro. Michael A. md. a Ms. Erman (This could be Ervin, Irvin, etc.). Clemenza md. John Cook. Catherine md. Henry Baily. Rebecca md. George Piper. I don't have dates for Michael Alexander but he should be in the 1860 census which is online at VAlley of the Shadow - using the 20 years per generation rule, James H. and Mary would have married approx. 1840, first child born 1842, second child 1844, third child 1846, Michael Alexander would have been about 14 in 1860, so he should be listed with James Coiner in the 1860 census. You'll have to use this family make-up to find the correct Michael, there is probably more than one. He probably married and went to CA after the Civil War. I just looked at the census and under Koiner, J is listed as 40, with sons James 16, Cornelius 13 and Michael 10 - I was close. This is the population census and doesn't list women. I always forget how to get to the regular census and they keep changing it. You might want to rent a microfilm at LDS to read the whole family. They are there though. Here's the URL: http://jefferson.village.virginia.edu/vshadow2/govdoc/au.census1860adv.html I am always amazed to hear Koiner is still being used. Most families changed to the Coiner spelling. However, there are Koiners in Augusta, many in TX and other parts of the country. There is a large family in MD who use this spelling. Let me know if I can help any more. Hope you all enjoyed another Koiner story! Norma Lsc12147@aol.com wrote: > > Hello all- > > Do these folks look familiar to anyone? I'd like to get a bit more info on > them.
