I am new to your list, I have many maps, sources, etc for the general area but have not been able to find the following waterways as yet: North Fork of Goose Creek Buffalo Creek, a branch of the Roanoke (sp?) Tinker's Creek Can anyone tell me approximately where these waterways were located -- or point me toward a source of likely info? I am researching Joseph McDonald-McDaniel-McDonnell of frontier VA in the early/mid 1700's. His son, Valentine, was born 11 Jan 1760 on South Branch of the Potomac River, VA (per Rev War pension record) which today is not a 'precise' location- description (So. Br. is a long river.) Chalkey's Chronicles include several entries about 'a' Joseph McDonald and wife Elizabeth, the above waterways being descriptions for their land purchases/sales. Chalkey also has genealogical info for a Bryan McDonald, wife Catherine and children Bryan Jr., James, Edward, Joseph, Richard, Prisla, Catherine, Rebecca and Mary in the record of Bryan Sr.'s will of 18 Aug 1757. >From my studies and info, the Northern Neck Land Grant area was *excluded* from the very large area of Old Augusta County. Also that the 'south' boundary of Fairfax's grant 'cut-across' the mid/southern area of present Grant and Hardy Co.'s WV, passing near present Petersburg, WV. This tells me the Joseph McDonald in Chalkey's Chronicles would have had to live in the southern part of present Hardy Co. WV, or even in present Pendleton Co. WV, in order for him to have lived 'on South Branch' and also been within Old Augusta County. Or, I suppose it is possible that Joseph could have been 'both' places if he moved from an Old Augusta Co. area to a South Branch location for only a short time when Valentine was born in 1760. Any 'McDonald-McDaniel-McDonnell' input is appreciated along with any thoughts concerning my above observations. I've 'looked around' the Augusta, Co. VA pages and have begun searching the VAAUGUST-L archives. Both seem to have a wealth of information -- thanks to all involved. I also hope to contribute info to the list. Neil McDonald
