What did they bathe in?? I have seen references to their carrying water in the flask of animal stomach...... You must have water to survive!! We hear warnings when going overseas "don't drink the water!" This doesn't mean that the countrymen where we are going doesn't drink it...it's just that how systems might not be used to it. They battled constantly in England, Europe...how did they quench their thirsts in battle?? Dirt?? No, they definately had tasted water!!!
