    3. I have seen the book and it obviously encompasses a great deal of hard work on the committee's part. However, I might warn that the information is quite a mixed bag -- some appears to be very good and some is questionable. Because sources are not consistently cited and articles aren't footnoted, it is somewhat hard to separate the good from the not-so-good. Unfortunately, as well, the book gets off to a rather dubious start by quoting the "diary" of Margaret Lynn Lewis, the wife of the first Augusta County settler, John Lewis. Margaret Lynn Lewis' diary is bogus, not meant to be a hoax but more than likely written in the late 19th century as a piece of fiction for a periodical. At any rate, the book is still worth getting because it pulls together a great deal of scattered Augusta County information, has a fairly complete list of churches with short histories, etc. Nancy Sorrells -----Original Message----- From: Mccthescot@aol.com <Mccthescot@aol.com> To: VAAUGUST-L@rootsweb.com <VAAUGUST-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Monday, April 12, 1999 11:29 PM Subject: Re: [VAAUGUST-L] Augusta County Va Heritage Book 1999 >In a message dated 4/12/99 4:33:32 PM Pacific Daylight Time, Frhutch@aol.com >writes: > > Can anyone comment on the Augusta County Heritage Book in terms of its > substantive content, its genealogical value, and whether they received the > book after ordering? > > Welcome your private comments as well as a posting to this site. >> > > >I believe I ordered two books either two or three years ago.
