I and 2 other closely related cousins are searching our FOXes-FUCHes in Augusta Co. Eldest known to Date is Mathias and Mary SPENCER Fox, by Census Records, born ca 1770, Va Several of their children were known to be in Orange/Culpeper Cos also. I'm suspect this was more a function of changing borders then anything else. Son Mathias m. Margaret/Peggy ROUSCH/ROWH in 1799, Augusta Co. (Thanks to the transcribers of the Scotch-Irish Chronicles this marriage entry also informed us our Fox was GERMAN Fuch!). Son Wm C (Abt 1801) m. Mary BURGESS (abt 1810) in Augusta Co. Their kids are known to have been born in Augusta, Greenbrier & Doddridge Cos. By 1860 Wm C. Mathias "jr" are in Doddridge Co. Va/Wv, with the Sr. Mathias and Mary living with the younger Mathias. Other Foxes In Doddr. Co. at this time, suspected to be kin are E. Fox and Seber Fox. There are other Foxes in the neighboring Cos that may prove kin (those changing boundaries again) and some of this generation's kin later lived in those counties. I have German PETERS (lots ot them!) who immigrated via Philadelphia, Lebanon and Lancaster Cos, PA to Augusta Co. Some later ended in Monroe Co Va/WV & one founded Peterstown. My Peters and Foxes intermarried twice (2 different generations and branch "twigs") but I do not know if they families were acquainted then, but members of both families before and after the Civil War moved to Fayette & Winnebago Cos, IA. I'm interested in the German history of migration to Augusta Co-I have no idea who the Sr. Mathias FUCH parents were or when the family immigrated. I'm still looking for more PETERS folks too. Will happily correspond and trade info with anyone. Crystal Crystal A.
