I am trying to find out if a probate file exists in Augusta County for a James Pelter, d. 1852 or a Nancy Syphret Pelter, d. 1864; both died in Waynesboro. I wrote to the Clerk of the District Court for Augusta Co. in Staunton; they said they don't have probate records. They suggested I write Waynesboro Circuit Court; Waynesboro's probate records start in 1948. Do you have any suggestion as to where else I might write? Thank you for your help.
