    3. Take a look at Bath/Highland Counties for Huffman. I do not have time to dig out references right now but do remember a James Huffman in the 1870 census. 2. I have a Henry William Baker (1760-1837 Winchester) m Catherine Miller (1768 Frederick Co, Maryland -1851) - I looked and don't have a John Conrad Baker - any chance that your Baker's were around the Winchester area. I also have Price, Campbell, and Owens. Have fun searching. Carolyn Scott ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    3. Thank you, all I really have is VA. I understand that John Conrad Baker (b. 1742?), wife Anna Maria (Whitmer) b. 6/4/1761, son John Conrad Baker b. 1784, daughter Susannah Baker b.1785, and daughter Elizabeth Baker b. 1789 return to this country from a trip to Germany to settle the estate of John's father in 1797. "They landed safely in the United States, and here, by an agreement previously made, they were sold for their passage. The father's time was sold for one year; the mother's for eighteen months, and each of the children for five years, which time they each served out in full." They moved to OH about 1815. About 1806, John Jr. married Margaret Bush in Rockingham Co., Virginia, I'm guessing. Thank you, Susan

    3. Do you ladies have access to all the County Court records for Augusta County Virginia from 1745 through 1800? You can research a synopsis of each court record, including deeds, wills, order books, marriages, etc on line at http://www.rootsweb.com/~chalkley/ There are 3 volumes of about 400 pages each in the original books so plan on spending many days researching. Click on volume 1 Scroll down to bottom of right hand page and click on index Click on alpha number of subject of interest: C- Campbell Click on Surname, and given name Click on blue page number and go to that page and search. Continue that through all the pages of all the volumes for weeks and you will be "smart" if not cross eyed. Enjoy Bucky Harris Staunton., Va. If you must have that a and all attachments such as depositions, court orders, subpoena's, etc, I expect you could get a Staunton native to help ya. ----- Original Message ----- From: <CathyB1756@aol.com> To: <vaaugust@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, April 12, 2007 4:02 PM Subject: Re: [VAAUGUST] I just signed up > Julia, > I can help you with some lookups if you contact me at my email address. > I have a large Virginia and Augusta County and several other CD's and > books > that I can use. OB 1699-1713, Part 2, 579 I'm not promoting this site - but it's called Imigrant servants: http://www.immigrantservants.com/ - and the cool thing is that every time someone pays the $25 to look up someone it is posted. There are 4 John Bakers here, sorry my work computer is slow, otherwise I would look for your other people. I ordered 2 of them - 1 I knew about - Nicholas LeHugh - I ended up giving them some of the info they posted, but they did find our family historian, so if you are one, it might be a good way to get the word out: http://immigrantservants.com/servant/show/649 and there is a Peter Lehoot - whom is in my book and I don't know if he's related, but I thought for $25 it was worth a shot: http://immigrantservants.com/servant/show/681 They also sent me a jpg of the entry for each person I ordered. 2. As a result of your clues I have searched the 1930 abd 1920 census and determined that Edith, maiden name still unknown, married Guy Gochenour, son of John E. Thalbert Gochenour and Josephine Stockdale. While Edith and Guy and their 2 oldest daughters were born in Virginia, in 1920 they were living in East Liverpool, Columbiana County Ohio. Guy was working in the pottery industry. 1. [VAAUGUST] Thomas C. HARLOW & Caroline DAVIS (roughly 1820ish births)
    2. Hello List! I new to this list, but not a new researcher. My Augusta Co. ancestor is Thomas Clark HARLOW. Thomas Clark HARLOW: b. 1815ish? -1828ish Louisa Co., VA d. 4/20/1894 Dayton, Montgomery Co., OH buried: Dayton Natl Cemetery military: 1st WV Calvary, Civil War, Union ----enlisted 8/30/1861 Parkersburg, Wood Co., WV ----reenlisted 12/23/1863 New Creek, WV known residences: -----Louisa Co., VA -----Orange Co., VA -----Augusta Co., WV -----Kanawha Co., WV -----Lewis Co., WV -----Wood Co., WV -----Mineral Co., WV -----Washington Co., OH -----Athens Co., OH -----Montgomery Co., OH spouse 1: Caroline DAVIS* marriage 1: unknown but before 1850 children from marriage 1: 4-5 spouse 2: Martha Jane SKINNER marriage 2: 1864 Washington Co., OH children from marriage 2: eight spouse 3: Isabella C. BURDETT (nee MILAM) marriage 3: 1867 Wood Co., WV children from marriage 3: none known In Augusta, Thomas shows up in the 1850 census with possibly his 2nd wife*, Caroline, who I have learned was Caroline DAVIS. 1850 census Dist. 2-1/2 Augusta Co., VA / roll M432 934 HARLOW, THOMAS age 25 <1825> born VA ---CAROLINE age 24 <1826> born VA ---LUCY M. age 8 <1842> born VA ---SARAH A. age 6 <1844> born VA ---WILLIAM J. age 4 <1846> born VA ---MARY J. age 1 <1849> born VA There was another son, Thomas S. HARLOW born roughly 1861 after this census. In 1860, this family was scattered among other families & Thomas can be found in WV. The Thomas HARLOW in that 1850 census was born in Louisa Co., VA. He is definitely may ancestor & I would be happy to provide my sources to the list. The son. William J. HARLOW in this 1850 census was born in Orange Co., VA. He served in the VA Infantry & then settled in Washington Co., OH where father, Thomas Clark HARLOW was living. Then he followed his father to Athens Co., OH in 1870 & again followed (or visa versa) his father back to Washington Co., OH in 1880. They lived next door to each other in 1870 & 1880. Records show that William James HARLOW's parents were Thomas Clark HARLOW & Caroline DAVIS & that William J. was born in Orange Co., VA. My questions: 1) Was this the same Thomas C. HARLOW b. 1815 Louisa Co., VA, who married the widow, Lucy HUMPHREY in 1840 Louisa Co., VA?* If so, then he had 4 wives. 2) Who was Caroline DAVIS? Was this her maiden name or was Caroline married before? 3) Was the Lucy P. HARLOW in this 1850 census the daughter of Thomas C. HARLOW & Lucy HUMPHREY? 4) Did Caroline think that Thomas was dead or did they divorce? ----Not a crazy as you think. This appears to be what happened with the marriage to Martha Jane SKINNER. Then, the 8 children was scattered in other homes or in the Athens Co., Infirmary. Wife Martha Jane is a widow in the 1880 census. 5) Did Lucy HUMPHREY die before Thomas married Lucy or were they divorced? There is an age discrepancy between Thomas C. HARLOW b. 1815 Louisa Co., VA who married Lucy HUMPHREY. I know for sure that the Thomas in this 1850 census is my Thomas who started claiming to be younger (b. 1828) while or before he married an 18 year old woman, Martha Jane SKINNER. From that point on, he was living by a birth year of 1828 - or at least this is my theory backed up with censuses starting in 1860. Would love any scrap of a lead out there & happy to share my sources. Best Wishes, Donna ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone. 1. [VAAUGUST] Green Hill Cemetery, Churchville
    2. Hi All Augusta Researchers, The old section of Green Hill cemetery has been uploaded to the Augusta Cemetery website. Thanks to: James B. Diamond and John Ralston Mr. Ralston says the rest of Green Hill should be finished by the end of the year. Please note that the Geocities site that hosts the Augusta site is a FREE site, so if it gets to many hits it will shut down for 1 hour, after 1 hour it will be put back online.
