I recently purchased a set (3 volumes) for the Gallia County Historical & Genealogical Society (Gallipolis, Ohio) and I got them from Amazon.com the price was $110.00. I purchased a set about 5 years ago for myself and the cost was $150.00 and it was worth every cent. When you go to Amazon your can find them on their search area by typing either Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish or Lyman Chalkely. I have loaned mine out at the present time to a cousin. I have never researched a library that didn't have a copy of these books so if you choose not to purchase them you will have no problem finding them at a library. Not to sound like a know-it-all or a nitpicker, but I did wanna voice a word (or two) of caution concerning the 'work' of Judge Lyman Chalkley. Hi Harold - You may be referring to Lyman Chalkey's History. You could check on the Internet and see if it is still available anywhere. If not, Higginson Books may be able to copy it for you. Please reply to Wilson. Rena List adm. ----- Original Message ----- From: Wilson Zaring To: doreatr@rbnet.com Sent: Sunday, April 22, 2007 5:12 PM Subject: John Coutts Hi, I am searching for information on John Coutts who is reported to have settled in Augusta County and in 1757 married the widow of John Harmantrout or Armantrout. I am especially interest in his parents and children to confirm what I think to be true: I have reason to believe but no proof that the Coots of Shelby County, KY, descend from John. Please contact me at zaring@uiuc.edu. If anyone is interested in the Coots families of KY I would be glad to share what I know. Wilson
from another list The 7 March 2007 issue of the Rootsweb Review discusses the US National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) proposal to increase its fees for photocopying records; notably, it mentions their proposal to increase fees for copies of Civil War pension files from $37 to $125. That puts the cost out of reach for most researchers. I would pay an extra fee if the records I request would be put online for everyone to access. As long as they are going to the trouble of copying them once, how hard would it be to put them on the website? [Editor's Note: Comments on the NARA proposal for a photocopying fee increase must be made by 27 April, so if you have comments submit them soon. The following are step-by-step instructions for submitting your comments: 1. Go to www.regulations.gov. 2. Under "Search for," select "Documents Open for Public Comment." 3. Under "Agency," select "National Archives and Records Administration*." 4. Under "Document Type," select "All Document Types." 5. In the "Keyword or ID" field, type "NARA-07-0001-0001." 6. Select "Exact Phrase." 7. Click the "Submit" button. You can read the proposed rule by clicking the PDF icon in the "Views" column. You can add your comments by clicking the yellow balloon icon in the "Comments" column. Also, you can e-mail comments to your government representative at: http://www.house.gov/writerep/.] To view the 7 March 2007 Review announcement about the proposed NARA fee increase, visit: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/review/2007/0307.txt PLEASE, PLEASE WRITE TO THEM TODAY!!!!!! --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell?
