I used to live in Arlington and spent a lot of time researching in DC area. Call the DAR and ask for the time they open. When I was there they charged $5 per day, if you were not a member. I took the Metro and walked the few blocks. I also took a lunch and ate in the park across the street. Make sure that they stamp your hand or whatever to not have to pay the $5. again. All of the people there are very helpful and there are many many books that most other libraries do not have. They had a maximum of pages that they would copy in a day so ask about that too. It has been several years since I was there so hope I am not steering you wrong. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

The metro is the best way to travel in DC. My daughter used to live there and every time I was in DC to visit, I would spend at least a half if not a full day at the DAR Library. She lived in Silver Spring MD and I took the metro from there a few times and also went to work with her and took the metro from Catholic University. It has been a few years since she moved to Atlanta, but my recollection is that it was a easy walk from the metro. Hi everyone, I wanted post about some of my Va. genealogy websites with information I have found while doing genealogy research for myself and others at the Library of Virginia. I transcribe the information and then place it on the sites. Miscellaneous Virginia Genealogy: http://vagenealogy.homestead.com/ has various kinds of records and Old Virginia Obituaries, 1790-1940: http://virginiaobits.homestead.com/ I hope you find some ancestors on these sites. Also have many helpful links for genealogy. Please feel free to write to me about genealogy. God bless, Beth deliaesther@att.net

My family was in DC a few weeks ago on vacation. We got a hotel in Alexandria and rode the Metro in every day. It is easy, clean, & safe. I did not think it was expensive. The fares range by distance and time of day, but it is much cheaper than parking. We found it very easy to negotiate even with 3 small children. You can get off the Metro at one of the stops near the White House, and you will only have a few blocks to walk to DAR. You can get more Metro information at www.wmata.com.
