    1. Re: [VAAUGUST] Wm McComb possibility
    2. The Pederson's
    3. Thank you very much for the MCCOMB information. Most of what I have comes from the old family Bible which lists William, Sr.'s birth date as 5/20/1850. He and Rebeckah m. 11/28/1771. She died in child birth along with their 12th child. The first son was named Andrew, second son was John, their third son was William, Jr. (9/4/1784), fourth son was James, and fifth son was "Young Andrew." The first son died at age 14 - 1786. William, Jr. also named his first son Andrew. Which makes me wonder if William, Sr.'s father was "Andrew." The name seems very important for some reason. William, Sr. served in the Revolutionary War from Augusta Co., VA. They were in Clark Co., IN by 1810 and died there. I haven't found William, Sr.'s place of birth or parents. PA is, of course, a good bet. Do you have any other information that might connect to what I have given you. I will be happy to share anything else that you might need. Thanks again, Susan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nancy Guenther" <nguenther@cox.net> To: <vaaugust@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, May 04, 2007 2:23 PM Subject: [VAAUGUST] Wm McComb possibility > Susan, > > This may not be much help. but in my records I have some McCombs. 2. Vicki, Its very nice of you to offer to do look ups for us. I have been trying to find marriage records of Adam Waggoner and Jane Unk. Adam was b about 1700. He d in 1785 in Montgomery Co., Va. Adam and Janes children were,,,,,Nancy (Ann) , b abt 1783, and Susannah, b abt 1780. This was at least Adams second marriage. She must have been a lot younger! I would be most appreciative if you would look up their marriage! Sincerely, Nancy Brown ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    3. Susan, This may not be much help. but in my records I have some McCombs. I have two Williams. 1. William McComb, son of Robert who lived in Washington Co PA. I don't have a birthdate for either nor a marriage. However, in the book "Early Records of Washington Co PA" by Raymond Martin Bell, there is a reference to this family. The father, Robert, was involved in land transactions in the 1780s & 1790s. William (the son) had 3 brothers and 1 sister Mary who married a John Stephenson. The other brothers were Thomas, Malcolm and & Johh. I have no dataes for any, 2. My second Wm McComb, is the son of a Robert and Jane (Stephenson). They were also from PA and the only location I have on them is Mercer Co PA which could be in close proximity. I suspect this may be the same Robert and son William. I have the children of this Robert & Jane listed as Malcom, Mary, John, Margaret, Elizabeth, Jane, William and Robert. NOTE that the same names (Malcomb, Mary, William, & John) akso appear in the #1 family above. Of course, those are not unusual Scotch-Irish names. Hopefully, this will give you a new location to search. Oh yes. I have a birthday for William as 29 Jun 1807. 3. Vickie, This is very generous of you. If it is not too much trouble, would you mind searching for any Stephenson/Stevenson marriages in the Book covering 1792 - 1850. I have been searching for 20 years for any clues on the parents of my Joseph Stephenson born in VA 1810-1811. I am really frustrated. I know Joseph was in Logan Co OH by 1833 when he married there.Three different branches of Stephensons were in Logan Co at that time. That is a huge part of my problem. I have travelled back to Logan Co OH twice in the last 10 years for a week each time.just searching and re-searching for any papers. My only other possiblility is if he is from OUTER SPACE!!!! Thank you again. 2. My first suggestion for you would be to get in touch with the Registrar at your local NSDAR chapter or the one nearest to you. She can give you direction. To check to see if he gave beef, etc., to the Army, check to see if there is a book called Virginia ' Publik" Claims for Augusta Co. by Janice Abercrombie. She has compiled the lists for many Virginia Counties. And I guess you may have already gone to the DAR site, downloaded the form used to request a copy of record for this Patriot. Most Public Libraries have the DAR Patriot Index. You can check there for his Revolutionary Service Rank, wife's name, state in which he served. And as a previous post said, you must obtain proof of birth, marriage and death for each generation from yourself back to the Patriot which means searching all kinds of Court House Records, Church Records, Land Records, Cemetery Records Obituaries etc. Any record showing a connection between generations and your link to this Patriot. It's lengthy but fun to do. JKM

    3. Julie, starting with your own birth, you must document each line until you prove you are directly descended to the patriot. For you, you must supply birth and marriage (if applicable). You must prove the births, marriage, deaths of your parents. Depending on whether it is your maternal or paternal line, your proceed to prove their birth, marriage, death. You keep on going until you reach your patriot. With luck he has already been proven. If not, you will need to research his involvement in the RW. If you go to: www.dar.org You will find a section regarding proving your lineage and membership in the DAR. 3. thanks Maggie - right now I'm working on my CT line, but I want to do my VA line also - I just learned that though others have entered under Spencer Lehue, VA - I will need to prove it again. I believe the original proof was that he signed the Ten Thousand Signatures Petition of 1776 - so what I am asking the list - is if this is enough - and I just have to find his name again - or if I have to do more and if so where to go. I've read the website and gotten my previous generations - but that doesn't help me now - what I am asking is if anyone on this list has proved it, and where they found the info? He was not military, so the easy way is out Acceptable Service The National Society reserves the right to determine the acceptability of all service and proof thereof.
