Hi, Vickie! I am looking for Archibald Dunlap (born approx 1765) married Elizabeth Baird (not certain of the spelling). Estimate the marriage may have been between 1785 and 1798. They settled in Augusta County, probably around Middlebrook, VA or further north near Churchville, VA. (I have found a record for the marriage of his son, Archibald Dunlap (Jr) to Margaret Minnik (spelling) in Augusta County on August 31, 1830.) Seeking info on this family. I'm trying to prove a generation connecting son George Washington Jackson b 1784, married Susannah Ray to parents Christiana & Moses Jackson, Revolutionary Patriot. I've documented all generations except can't find any proof for this one generation. They had lived in Shenandoah co. VA, believed to have moved on to Augusta Co. VA and on to Gallatin KY. It's been stated by Jackson & Gowens research that George is son, however DAR has to see documentation. At this point, the only thing left for me is Church Records, would anyone be able to tell me what Churches I might find some records to prove this relationship. Locating documentation in the late 1700's is quite a challenge. Viola in CA

Hi Vickie! Nice offer! Thank you. I have a John Frederick SIVERT who married and Anna Elizabeth unknown. John or Johann was a German Immigrant who had his named botched in many documents - one Botetoute Co. doc has 3 spellings for his name in the same deed. Actual German Spelling: SIEBERT Many Anglicized Spellings: SIBERT SYBERT SYEBERT SIBURT SYBURT SIFURT SIFART (not kidding) Final Spelling Used in WV: SIVERT (this spelling stuck by 1810) At any rate, the first syllable will be spelled phonetically as SI (rhymes with why or sky). The second syllable will rhyme with hurt and/or art. The f, b, or v is a common mistake on the part of the English when spelling the name for some reason. Anna Elizabeth's maiden surname may have been WETZEL or RIESS/REISS. It could be just about any German name though. The marriage probably took place from 1781-1785ish. John or Johann Frederick Sivert married Anna Elizabeth before 1787 when he settled on Botetoute Co., VA from 1787-1796. He then appears in 1809 Ohio Co., (W)VA tax records and this is where he died in the 1830s. (will probated 1834) The are many gaps in the years of his life. He fought in the RW in the Berks Co. (PA) Militia. He probably came to this country as a Hessian Soldier. His grandson, David Sivert, is quoted in an early WV history book as saying that John Frederick Sivert was indeed a Hessian who was captured and switched sides to fight for the Americans. In Hessian records, a Johann Fredrick Siebert deserted the Hessian Army in 1781 VA, never to be found again by the Hessian Army. If this is the same person, the Hessian deserter must have had help to find his way to Berks Co., PA where the majority of German speaking Americans lived and where a POW camp for Hessian soldiers existed. He had German-American relatives already in the PA Dutch country, whom also traveled down the Shenandoah Trail and whom also settled in Ohio Co., (W)VA. One very famous probable relative, Lewis Wetzel, cosigned on land in Ohio Co., (W)VA. It is possible that Anna Elizabeth's last name was WETZEL. So, from 1783-1787, no one knows where he went. After the RW, there was a large immigration of PA Germans flowing down the Shenandoah Valley. Shenandoah Co., VA is on the route to Botetoute. Quite possibly that is where he found & married Anna Elizabeth unknown, another German (she wrote in German tongue in the family bible). If you find this record, you are the most amazing person on the planet. Best Wishes, Donna ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
