Hi Ethel: I'm researching records for the William Robertson family in Augusta Co. VA. Family records say that he was born in Augusta Co, Feb 6,1720, and married Letitia Kerr, b. 1-7-1723, possible daughter of James Kerr, Sr. (based on the fact that this Kerr family was only one there until about 1770. They married 1749, and had eleven children, 8 sons & 3 daughters. Lettitia died in 7-14-1775, and William died ca 10-7-1812. Their children were Jane; Lettice; Alexander; Rebecca; Mary 'polly'; Isabella; Sarah 'Sally'; Elizabeth; Margaret; James; & Matthew, all born between 1750 and 1768. I have one land record from James Kerr to William Robertson, and William's Will, Inventory, and his probate must have been held many months or years following his death. I need Marriage Records and land records primarily. Thank you in advance. I sent a msg. to the Augusta line a week or so ago, but didnt get a reply. Maybe I didnt get thru or might have been disregarded due to lack of finding them in these various counties. Julie, Thanks for the offer on the Minister Returns. I think I have already covered the marriages for my people (Alexander, Brewster, Campbell) in Augusta and Rockingham Counties. They were there as early as 1747 and left by 1790 so not a lot of records exist. I already have the marriage date and place (Rockingham) for my ggggg-grandparents -- William Alexander and Agnes Brewster(Bruster), so I think I am set. I do have a number of reference sources for Augusta and Rockingham County (as some other surrounding areas) in the 1700s so if you pinpoint where your Spencer Lehue was, let me know and I will be happy to do some more checking. Have you searched the Library of Virginia website? They have an excellent search engine and quite a lot of resource materials. Maybe that would help in figuring out where he was living during the RW. She can give you direction. To check to see if he gave beef, etc., to the Army, check to see if there is a book called Virginia ' Publik" Claims for Augusta Co. by Janice Abercrombie. She has compiled the lists for many Virginia Counties. And I guess you may have already gone to the DAR site, downloaded the form used to request a copy of record for this Patriot. Most Public Libraries have the DAR Patriot Index. You can check there for his Revolutionary Service Rank, wife's name, state in which he served. And as a previous post said, you must obtain proof of birth, marriage and death for each generation from yourself back to the Patriot which means searching all kinds of Court House Records, Church Records, Land Records, Cemetery Records Obituaries etc. Any record showing a connection between generations and your link to this Patriot. It's lengthy but fun to do. JKM ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Third Sunday in each month will set aside for a "Brick Wall" Roll Call. I am going to check the web site of Bob Jenkins to see if I can make any more connections. After checking the dates, I am not sure that we connect. There is a 50 year span between your Adam's birth and your 10th child Peter. Perhaps there is another generation in there? We can keep in touch--maybe there is a connection farther back.
