Sorry, Nancy. Gen. McCausland was a distant cousin, according to my ggreatuncle John McCausland in a 1927 article in the Fayette, MO newspaper. I'm searching for the parents of my John and his brother William H. who was my gggrandfather. They were orphaned as youngsters and it seems the parents' identities were lost when the children were divided up. I really need to contact someone who is very knowledgable about the Virginia McCausland lines. Thanks for your information! Okay - I've still got close to 400 emails to go through from maling lists - but I thought I would start posting my attempt at transcriptions - I'm pretty confident, I have all the scans listed that I took, so here goes. In a message dated 7/12/2007 9:45:36 PM Eastern Daylight Time, juls92627@yahoo.com writes: > civilwartraveler.com/about/maps/ValleyMap.pdf Thanks for the nice reference. Another thing needed, which I have neglected, is a map of the old Indian roads, which became the pioneers trails such as the Pennsylvania, Wilderness, etc. I got interested when looking at old deeds i found references to parcels' bounding the old trails. It would be nice to document them, put that on audio as well as visual so a traveler through the Valley could imagine oneself back in the 18th century. For instance, between Greenville, VA and Stuarts Draft, VA , both just south of Staunton, there is the Indian Ridge road for maybe 10 miles. It is beautiful. Runs along the top of the ridge, which the indians considered the safest place. Yet most genealogy travelers and history buffs in Virginia have no way of knowing about it. Likewise, it is known where the Pennsylvania Road crossed the rivers in Augusta County. You can still see them! But how would you know it?just hav not had time to promote it to the Historical Society, Chamber of commerce, etc. That regret is the penalty for trying to do too much. Daley Craig daleycraig@cs.com
Okay - this might be a 'duh' for everyone else but I just found a cool map that has helped me put all of these counties together. I've seen the countie formation site (love it!) but this one gives an idea of mountains, and water ways too. Granted it's a Civil War map, so off from the 1700s that I'm trying to figure out - but cool none the less. And now I need to join the Warren County list, lol. Seeking information on William Farrell, orphan of John Farrell. In the Augusta County Order Book #VI, March 21, 1759, it is ordered that William Farrell be bound out along with Barbara Farrell. I found this information in the book "Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia". I am a descendant of a William Ferrell, b. abt. 1755, location unknown. William first appears in 1779 on a Dobbs Co, NC, tax list and later in Wayne County, North Carolina which was formed from Dobbs County. He was apparently very close to the Watson family there, as he was deeded land from Isom Watson and witnessed several deeds among other Watson family members. He married Delila (last name unknown) and their children were: John, Henry, Noel, Polly, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Rebecca. Thank you. Hunter Ferrell http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ferrell/
