SAMUEL LUSK 1750-1792 (wife: Susannah Stephenson) to any of the Augusta Co. LUSKs...but he was there before he migrated to Wythe/Tazewell Co. VA. Does anyone know of this character??? Looking for a clue to his parents. Any help appreciated!!!!! Jim James F. Carver 610 Gay Street, Box 214 Portsmouth, Ohio 45662-0214 e-mail: heritage@zoomnet.net

Here is something I found on another site and thought since it contains alot of our research surnames, I would submit it to the list. Hopefully, some of you will find that elusive ancestor of the Revolution... Diana Kinzer Heath Letter from Stephen Moore and John Barnwell to General N. Greene (From North Carolina State Records) PRISON SHIP FORBAY, CHARLES TOWN HARBOUR, 18th Mary, 1781 We have the honor of inclosing (sic) you a copy of a letter from Colonel balfour commandant of Charlestown, which was handed us immediately on our being put on board this ship. The letter speaking for itself needs no comment; your wisdom will best dictate the notice it merits. We just beg leave to observe that should it fall to the lot of all, or any of us, to be made victims, agreeable to the menaces therein contained, we have only to regret that our blood cannot be disposed of more to the advancement of the glorious cause to hwich we have adhered. I learned the following in regard to possibly finding location of Joseph McDonald's land in the 1750's. Possibly 'Near the gap in Tinker Mountain' will help someone tell us approximately where the McDonald land and house is/was located? Bryan McDonald came to Virginia from Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware, about the year 1745. He was 59 years old when he moved to Buffalo Creek. Those who died early in the settlement were buried in the McDonald or Glebe graveyard at the corner of Edward McDonald's land. The old Bryan McDonald place is at a head spring of Buffalo or Tinker Creek. The land is near the gap in Tinker Mountain. The old house was about four or five miles above the Robinson Mill. In 1938, the original house was still standing. (Joseph was son of Bryan McDonald.) Need help with this. Can anyone identify this area for me.?? Because it was very early. Taken from Rockingham Historical Society publication. supposedly covers Augusta and Rockingham Co. Still learning my VA boundary changes. Abstracts of Surveys book 0-1 Nicholas Huffman , 85 acres, between the Shanandoah River and the Peaked Mountians Oct 20 1761. John Sellers 330 Acres, LICK RUN, Adjoining Henry Pirkey, Null, Kissling. May 11, 1762 Henry SEllers 205 acres between the Shenandoah river and Peaked Mountains, adjoining Stephen Harnsberger, May 3, 1762. pg 41 Nicholas Huffman 170 acres Between the WOODS LAND and the Peaked Mountain. Adjoining George Huffman April 5, 1765. Henry Huffman 54 acres, beginning in a line of DASHIERS land....... to Farifaxes line. Feb 26, 1765. I see a Peaked Mt on or very near the border of PA MD. One Huffman homestead is on the Potomoc river backside. Henry sold the above land in 1805 when living in Greene Co PA. Desperately need to find locations of these lands. Have more data if needed. Hi, I'm looking for the location of the Bryan McDonald/McDonnell houses in Augusta County, VA built about 1750. Thanks for your trouble. Gene McDaniels
I love receiving the queries, BUT..... When I click on the "paperclip" the identifying line is too long and all those queries say "Query, Augusta Co...." There isn't enough room to include the surname. Is it possible, from your end, to shorten that to "Query, Surname"? We know the query concerns Augusta Co. and it would save so much time if the surname could appear in the drop-down list. Thanks. ---------- > From: VAAUGUST-D-request@rootsweb.com > To: VAAUGUST-D@rootsweb.com > Subject: VAAUGUST-D Digest V99 #20 > Date: Monday, January 18, 1999 2:21 AM >
Thought I'd post again to see if this looks familiar to anyone. I'm looking for any information about... Jonathan MCNEIL, born about 1759 in Augusta County, VA, died 21 Nov 1823 in London, Laurel County, KY married Jane MCCORD (1760-1838) on 6 Sep 1779 in Botecourt, VA I have heard that Jonathan's parents were Neil MCNEIL and Mary or Margaret ?. Any help on Jonathan's family or ancestors would be appreciated. Sallia (McNeil) Bandy Georgetown, Texas
I am new to your list, I have many maps, sources, etc for the general area but have not been able to find the following waterways as yet: North Fork of Goose Creek Buffalo Creek, a branch of the Roanoke (sp?) Tinker's Creek Can anyone tell me approximately where these waterways were located -- or point me toward a source of likely info? I am researching Joseph McDonald-McDaniel-McDonnell of frontier VA in the early/mid 1700's. His son, Valentine, was born 11 Jan 1760 on South Branch of the Potomac River, VA (per Rev War pension record) which today is not a 'precise' location- description (So. Br. is a long river.) Chalkey's Chronicles include several entries about 'a' Joseph McDonald and wife Elizabeth, the above waterways being descriptions for their land purchases/sales. Chalkey also has genealogical info for a Bryan McDonald, wife Catherine and children Bryan Jr., James, Edward, Joseph, Richard, Prisla, Catherine, Rebecca and Mary in the record of Bryan Sr.'s will of 18 Aug 1757. >From my studies and info, the Northern Neck Land Grant area was *excluded* from the very large area of Old Augusta County. Also that the 'south' boundary of Fairfax's grant 'cut-across' the mid/southern area of present Grant and Hardy Co.'s WV, passing near present Petersburg, WV. This tells me the Joseph McDonald in Chalkey's Chronicles would have had to live in the southern part of present Hardy Co. WV, or even in present Pendleton Co. WV, in order for him to have lived 'on South Branch' and also been within Old Augusta County. Or, I suppose it is possible that Joseph could have been 'both' places if he moved from an Old Augusta Co. area to a South Branch location for only a short time when Valentine was born in 1760. Any 'McDonald-McDaniel-McDonnell' input is appreciated along with any thoughts concerning my above observations. I've 'looked around' the Augusta, Co. VA pages and have begun searching the VAAUGUST-L archives. Both seem to have a wealth of information -- thanks to all involved. I also hope to contribute info to the list. Neil McDonald
