Thanks to several for info concerning Valentine Powers, the clergyman of frontier VA in the 1700's. The following link has some of the marriages performed and recorded by him: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvhardy/hmarr.htm Here is a link to many marriages (including that of Valentine Powers in 1815) conducted in the Hardy Co. WV area with various clergymen named: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvhardy/harmar.htm Valentine Powers may well have been 'the namesake' for my Valentine McDonald-McDaniel-McDonnel, born 1760 in the South Branch settlement area, son of Joseph McD--. Does anyone perchance have info concerning Joseph McDonald-McDaniel-McDonnell in the 1750's - 1760's of frontier VA? Please note that 'my' Joseph was apparently *not* the Joseph McD-- listed in many entries of Chalkey's Chronicles. 'This' Joseph McDonald was son of Bryan McDonald Sr. of the Beverly Manor settlement area of frontier VA (present Botetourt Co. VA.) For general information, since Chalkey's work for early Augusta Co. VA *excluded* the Northern Neck land grant area, people who were living in the South Branch area of present Hampshire County WV, and most of Hardy County WV, would generally not be found in Chalkey's Chronicles. Thanks for any help. Neil McDonald

I'm trying to locate information on the George and Elenor Draper family when they lived near Staunton in the late 1730s and early 1740s (roughly). These were the parents of the famous Mary Draper Ingles who took the "long road home" from the Indians. I'm looking for information that predated their time along the new river in present-day Blacksburg area. Have just begun my library digging, but thought this list might save me some slogging. Thanks. Valentine Powers was indeed the 'clergy-man.' He was evident in the Hampshire and Old-Frederick County VA area records in the late 1700's and 1800's, performing many marriages and other acts of clergy. He was of the commonly known 'Dunkard' faith per my readings. I am wondering whether 'Valentine Powers' may have been a father-son 'Sr.' and 'Jr.' since the recorded activities of Valentine Powers covered a long time span. Does anyone have further info for this Valentine Powers? Neil McDonald
My gg-uncle Robert SHULTZ, b. 1842, Augusta Co., was in the hospital at Mossy Creek during the Civil War & he was discharged in 1862 because of physical disabilities. Does anyone have any info on this hospital ?? Susane
Is there anyone out there who is researching the Harmans? I keep running across the name of Jacob Harman in Waddells and other places in VA. I believe the Harmans were German and were possibly in the German migration from PA. If you are researching them, please get in touch with me. Shirleen Johnston
Hi, my name is Ken colby46@juno.com I am new on line, I am researching the Lancisco line. Henry Lancisco, states in Order Book 3 (1749-1753) p. 420 of Augusta County " I Henry Lancisco, a German Protestant, having produced a certificate from a Protestant Clergyman, and had taken the Sacrament and made oath being inhabitant of this colony upwards of twelve years and having taken the usual oaths to his Majesty's Person and Government, and made subscribe to the test." Henry Lancisco is also listed in Deed Book 3, Entry No. 116, at Hampshire Courthouse which states; 'This indenture made this seventeenth day of December, in the year of our Lord seven hundred and seventy-two, Between Henry Lancisco of the County of Augusta in the colony f Virginia of the one part and Valentine Powers of the county of Hampshire' Henry Lancisco's will was written on October 9, 1790 at Augusta County, it named his wife Flora and mentions children without naming them. Anybody out there know who his children were? ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. And what is wrong with Francis Marion? My gramma's brother was Francis Marion Fletcher. They called him Frank. My name is Lu Ann, and I once got mail from a Honda dealer for a Mr. Lu A. McWilliams. It's just odd that you picked Francis Marion. It jumped out at me and I had to see what board I was on. Have a great day.
