Children of the first wife were (listed in the order mentioned in Robert ALLEN, Sr.'s will): James (alive in 1785), Robert, Jr., (1741-1788 - my ancestor)who married Jane TURK (1749-1845), daughter of Thomas TURK (1718-1809), John, died in 1830 in Rockbridge Co., VA, who married Jane __?__ (some say Monticue), William, who married Mary __?__ and moved by 1803 to the part of Kanawha Co., VA which became Mason Co., VA in 1804, Mary who married __?__ McClure/McClary/ Mallory, Anne who married __?__ Frazier. Robert Allen, Sr., wrote his will on 17 Sept. 1785 and it was proved in the Augusta Co., VA Court on 15 Feb. 1791. 1. [VAAUGUST-L] Curry
    2. Darrell Klompmaker
    3. Hello, I am new to this list. I am researching the surname CURRY. I am having trouble finding a marriage record for a James CURRY who married an Elizabeth CURRY. This marriage was quoted in the book "Early settlers of Sangamon Co." as having taken place in Augusta Co. VA on Feb 17, 1817. The parents of this James are unknown. He was also born in VA @ 1798-99 but I have not been able to find that either. This Elizabeth Curry was the daughter of Jane Curry who married a John HUSTON in Augusta Co., April 11, 1807. There in lies another mystery as Elizabeth was born in 1801. Was Jane married to a CURRY gentleman or was her maiden name Curry and this child born out of wedlock.?? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou Cheryl

John was born 31 Aug., 1784 in Lincoln county, Kentucky. We have references that John moved to Monroe county, Indiana, and that Patsy (nickname for Martha) was John's sister. You are right about this family being in Virginia before going west. The Berrys were in Frederick and Augusta counties in Virginia as well as in Bath county, North Carolina. The Allens and Moores were in Frederick and Augusta counties as well. There is a Givens family history by Jane Tyler Craig Reichlein that covers descendants of Samuel Givens that includes the Berry surname. The title is "The Samuel Givens Family and Kin". It may be of value in your research. We would be glad to share what we have on our Allens and Givens. We look forward to hearing from you, Yours truly, Bill and Loydean Allen ballensr@home.com end

    1. [VAAUGUST-L] August ledger 1886-90
    2. G. Thomas Bishop
    3. Hello, I don't know if this will be of use to anyone ... but a few years ago I bought an old ledger at a flea market. It wasn't in all that good a shape, but being involved in genealogy, and seeing all the names listed, I couldn't resist buying it (even though none of my ancestors are from Augusta). It has to do with some School Fund, I think, for the years 1886-1890. Probably too late for many of the people on this list. I'm pretty sure Augusta is where it's from. I'm 'auctioning' it off on ebay. You can get a better description of it at: <http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=69625452> Of course, don't use the arrows on the ends (< >) There's no index and a ton of names, so I can't do look ups. But just in case the book gets into the hands of a non-genealogist, I've had the pages with the names filmed (the film would fit on a microfilm reel). If someone can give me the name of a Historical Society or whatever in Stauntion or Augusta county, I'd send the film there and maybe they could do look ups. Or maybe whoever buys the book would do some look ups. Anyway, good luck with your genealogy, G.T. Bishop

    2. Holly Wanless Cochran
    3. Does anybody know the maiden names (with sources, please) of the following women found in the 1860 Bath county census? I have checked Bath county marriage records and am in the process of checking marriages in surrounding counties, but thought I'd check with fellow researchers also, since it seems like one of you must have these people in your files! (I've also checked Morton's History of Highland co. online for leads.) BOON, Anness, wife of Mark, born in England abt 1825, married (possibly in England) abt 1850 CRISER, Mary, wife of David, b. abt 1810, md. bef 1839 FAWCETT, Elizabeth, wife of Albert, b. abt 1821, md. 1850-1860 LEWIS, Catherine, b. abt 1825, wife of James b. abt 1799, married abt 1849 McCHESNEY, Sarah G., wife of Dr. Alexander G., born abt 1837, married abt 1855 MED(D)INGS, Elizabeth, wife of Patrick H., b. abt 1819, md. 1838-1850 PUTMAN, Sarah, wife of Fuller, b. abt 1797, md. 1813-1820 RIDER, Jane/Jenny E., wife of James K., b. abt 1808 in Pocahontas, md. abt 1832 (not in Poca. marriage records) SHELTON, Sarah, wife of Henry, b. abt 1809, md. abt 1824 SHELTON, Lucy, wife of William, b. abt 1830, md. abt 1849 SHIELDS, Susan, wife of William W., b. abt 1823, married 1850-1860. William was previously married abt 1834 to a wife who died before 1850. I suspect that either his first wife or Susan was a Mann or a McClintic. TERRILL, Rachel, wife of William H., b. abt 1811, married between 1850 and 1860 if this is his 2nd marriage, or before 1840. In the 1850 census, his wife is Elizabeth and she is about 6 yrs older than Rachel, so I'm not sure if they are the same wife; I suspect that Elizabeth died and Wm. H. remarried to Rachel abt 1857.
