I'm glad to read the messages that the book is really being sent out and that you like it. I can hardly wait :-) thanks for the replies. Helen
Yes, I would like to know where to view this document too. Thank you to Norma, G. Lee, and all the rest who tried to help me figure out my William Fauber census stumper. This list has once again reaffirmed it's reputation for friendly, helpful list members ! It WAS the Gearhart connection that threw me. A trip back into the 1860 & 1870 census records might help clear this up, as suggested by G.Lee. Like I said, back to the old drawing board, or in this case, back to the old microfilm reader ! Linda
I heard that the book was finally being sent out. Has anyone received theirs as yet? Helen
Hi List, Seeing the postings regarding German history in VA recently I checked the list of books from a company I've dealt with for several years and they have the following available: History of the German Element in VA- Vol 1 & 2 by Schuricht German Element of the Shenandoah Valley by Wayland Also listed 'Old Churches, Ministers and Families' by Meade l894 -Vol 1 & 2 They have a good variety of other states & published Family Histories as well. I'm not anyway involved with this company other than being a customer and wanted to pass this info on. If you write to them they will send you a their list. Stemmons Publishing Co. P.O. Box 612, West Jordan, Utah 84084. Pat-Norfolk, VA
On 16 Oct 1792 a petition (signed by 193 Germans from Augusta Co.) was submitted to the Virginia General Assembly. The purpose of this request was... due to their ignorance of the English language, they could not become acquainted with the proceedings of the General Assembly. They requested that a sufficient number of laws of the commonwealth be (also) printed in German. "A Calendar of Legislative Petitions (Richmond, 1908), I, 146 (A 1165, October 16, 1792). I mention this petition because...with 193 German represented it, it is possible one of "our" Augusta Co., ancestor's signature may be shown on this document. Has anyone viewed this document or have access to where it may be located?? Katie
Norma, I saw your explanation and you had said exactly the same as I did. I don't know how to explain the Gearhart connection either, but if the rest of the census information corresponds with information which has been proven, I would accept it and do further research to learn more about the Gearhart connection. Also, I would check the 1860 and 1870 census to see if there were children born between 1857 and 1869. If not, it appears possible that Mary J. Fauber may have been married to a Gearhart between 1857 and the time she married the father of William Fauber.. That's all from me on this...G. Lee.....
Me too, I just said the same thing, however, the poster is looking for something else - she has a different maiden name for this woman listed as sister - so it is also possible this woman is only a step or half sister, the man (William) gave the information and called this woman his sister. It wasn't necessary for him to elaborate on her maiden name. She is too young to be sister to the mother. In this case, it is rather a stumper! Is there anyone there who would do 2 lookups for me ? Need marriage info on George SHULTZ/SCHULTZ b: abt 1785+- married Naomi RUSSELL in 1814, Augusta Co. Also, death record of Naomi Russell SHULTZ sometime after 1814 but do not know when. Thank You Susane
To Linda and All interested Parties: I am going to try to explain the relationship of this family for Linda. William Fauber is listed as "Head of Household" which means that he was probably the one who owned the house where all of these people lived. Mary J Fauber is listed as "Mother" which , to me, means that Mary Fauber was the MOTHER of William Fauber..Which means she was married to a Fauber who was the father of William Fauber! She is living in the household of her son, William.. Mary E. Earman is listed as "Sister" which means that she was a sister of WILLIAM FAUBER..She was apparently married to a man whose last name was EARMAN..and he had either died or they were divorced.. Clarence B. Earman is listed as "Nephew", which means that he was a NEPHEW of William Fauber..And a son of Mary E. Earman.. Annie M. Earman is listed as "Niece" which means that Annie was a NIECE of WILLIAM FAUBER...Annie being a daughter of Mary E. Earman..It's very Simple!! G. Lee Hearl Abingdon, Va....
I've had several queries as to "time frame" for the quotes I posted. I've looked through the book and it appears the time frame is approximately 1730' - 1750's. BTW, I realize I'm posting Virginia infor to a PA list. As I originally mentioned, this info has a close relationship to the PA German genealogy and I believe can assist in your research. I hope no one minds my postings. Katie
