I am seeking info on the marriage record of George SHULTZ & Naomi RUSSELL I have a piece of paper here that says they were married in 1814 in Augusta Co, VA. Does anyone have access to those records? Someone looked in a book for me but could not find them. Hi Linda I am descended from Christophers son Robert Graham, and will share what I have collected on the Grahams. Some of the spellings I have found on different branches of the family : Graham, Grayham, Grimes, Grymes, Grimms. Christopher is believed to have migrated from Scotland into Ireland about 1687. About 1699 he married Margaret Florence Risk in Donegal City, Ireland. Margaret was also of Scots descent, and some of her family emigrated with them to the colonies. Some researchers say Christopher is the son of Thomas Graham, who is first seen on the 1704 rent rolls of VA, and brother of Edward Graham. Most researchers agree that Christopher Graham emigrated, along with a group of family and friends, sometime before 1710, settling in Paxton Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Although many passenger lists have been reconstructed from various sources, documentation of the ship he sailed on, or the exact date of his arrival have yet to be found. Christopher was one of the early settlers of the Cowpasture Valley in Virginia. According to Highland County history he migrated to the area sometime before 1740. Highland county was then part of Augusta county. Christopher died on the Bullpasture River probably in 1745. His will was recorded in Augusta county 19 Feb 1746. His son Robert was administrator of the estate with William Smith and Robert Bratton serving as sureties. There seems to be conflicting info on whether Christophers children were born in Ireland or the colonies. Further info on Robert Graham can be found at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Woods/5668/ HAPPY HUNTING! Hi y'all, Does anyone recognize BELINDESS as a surname in early Augusta County (1700's)? >From the same source of this name, I have found a transcription error that turned HARRIS to HANIE.... So, I expect that this is also the same sort of error, any suggestions as to what it 'might' be? The earlier assumption was that it could be German (Hessian?), and the Bible records were destroyed (1927) because of the 'assumption', but it could be any ethnic group. I've never seen any name like it before and I have a few 'strange' ones connected to me. <grin> ............Some I even take credit for! <grin> Could it be Melungeon? I have no way of know this and I'm just tossing it up to question. I know NOTHING of this multi-ethnic group......... only the name. Looking for any constructive suggestions.... Many, many thanks, Lisa Grimes

Recently I have been forwarding lists of uploadings to the VA archives to you. Then I asked if this was helpful and should I continue. I have been gratified by the number of postive responses and will keep doing it as they come in. Have also had a couple of inquiries about what is involved in making submissions to the archives. Dear listers, As most of you know by now (and are probably tired of hearing about it!), I am attempting to annotate the 1860 Bath census with maiden names. Does anybody know the maiden names (with sources, please) of the following women found in the 1860 Bath county census? These are all names I have *not* sent to these lists before this. The dates mean "married in or before this year", based on the age of their eldest child in the census. BURNS, Huggart M. & Elizabeth -1858 BURNS, Abraham & Margaret J. -1855 BURNS, Joseph & Sally/Sarah 1850-1860 (2nd mrg; his first wife was Christina Potts) CAMPBELL, Alexander D. & Mary Elizabeth DICKENSON 1850-1854 (need date & county) DAINGERFIELD/DANGERFIELD, Leroy P. Jr. & Margaret -1860 maybe Frederick or Greenbrier DILL, William M. & Susan 1851-1860 GRINSTON, John & Elizabeth (Havershill?) -1860 HUDDLESTON, David & Agnes -1855 HUTTLE/HOTTLE/HUDDLE/HODEL, Woodson & Jane, -1840 JACKSON, Albert & Mary, -1854 JORDAN, George & Frances/Fanny, -1835 JOSEPH, Ezekiel & Elizabeth -1849 JOSEPH, Samuel & Anne 1850-1860 (maybe 2nd mrg; wife in 1850 was Mary) KESTERSON, William & Mary/Polly -1834 LINKSWILER/LYNKSMISER, Joseph & Nancy (Windon? Ross?) -1854 LIPTRAP (SIPTRAP/LISSTRAP), Anthony & Sarah, -1838 LOAN, Thompson & Mary, -1843 maybe Albemarle For all of these, I have checked the following sources: --Bath and Pocahontas county marriage records through 1861 --Bath death records thru 1870 --Highland marriages thru 1861 & deaths thru 1870 --Augusta marriages thru 1850 --Alleghany marriages thru 1854 --Rockbridge marriages thru 1850 --the post-1850 Rockbridge marriage book online (which is not complete) --Morton's History of Highland county --Shenandoah co. marriages thru 1850 --Nelson co. marriages thru 1850 --Pendleton marriages thru 1850 --Rockingham marriages thru 1850 --CD 229 (VA Marriage Index thru 1850) I will continue checking marriages in surrounding counties & later timeframes, but hope one of you will have these elusive folks in your files! I'll gladly offer free lookups in the 1850 VA and 1860 Bath/Highland census in return for any help, or a free annotated 1860 Bath census book (when it's published) if you send me 5 or more maiden names with sources. I have a Leander McChesney b. 1800, Leander Moses McChesney, b. 1853 and a Leander Moses McChesney b, 1919. But I have no reference to a Sawyer Bell McChesney. How interesting. There must be a connection. I do have some BELL's. Do you know of any BELL's in your family? Maybe we could connect. Better yet -- try this URL: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/ ... or any of the corrected URL's below -- I removed the excess /ftp from the path, so these links should now work. The URL's in the original message didn't work because there was an extra /ftp in the path. This portion of the path doesn't exist. If you change the prefix of all URL's to ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/ as I have done below, then the links should work. Also, the files available through FTP are not necessarily linked to the VA Archives page whose URL is given immediately below, so it is best to use the ftp link above or the fixed URL's below. -- Hope this helps, Mary Taffet mdtaffet@syr.edu Carmen Finley wrote: > > I am not sure why the ftp URLs will not work, but go to the VA Archives > proper at: > > http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/va/vafiles.htm > > Carmen > > At 07:45 PM 3/18/99 -0600, Joyce McMurray wrote: > >I check some of these and they won't work > >> > >> 3-18-99 > >> > >> ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/albemarle/wills/h6200002.txt > >> ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/albemarle/wills/h6200001.txt > >> ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/augusta/court/2court28.txt > >> ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/botetourt/census/1850cena.txt > >> ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/frederick/cemeteries/mthebro.txt > >> ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/princewilliam/wills/f6520001.txt > >> > ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/rockbridge/vitals/marriage/mcmarr > >> ia.txt > >> ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/spotsylvania/wills/c5200001.txt > >> > >> [snip]
