    1. [VAAUGUST-L] A Family Web Site, Records, and Archive for VA
    2. Constance
    3. Hello All... I am new here to the Mailing List. I would like to get lookups, exchange records, and make connections. Personally, I have errected a Family Records and Archives Web Site in behalf of this mailing list and those in it with regards to my very large family Genealogy of the geographical area here pertaining to the WHITE and McNEESE families, which obviously has something to do with this thread. It includes records on Surnames, Genealogies, Histories, Ancestries, births, marriages, deaths, immigration, wills, military, divorces, children, etc. I hope to go into more specifics with you in the near future about it. It is a contribution to the areas, Counties, Countries, Names, and Histories to many locations. Try it out and take a look at it. If you find anything worthwhile then let me know and if you can contribute further to it then let me know. Someone in your family might be listed here. Try doing a look up for further information on connections. There are over 8000 individuals listed and over 1900 Surnames listed. (Too many to list them all here in this mailing list so take a look to see if your family is listed here) I wish that I could list all the information here at one time that pertains to this thread but it is so vastly large that I can only contribute parts at a time. So, in the meantime, I am sending the Web Site in whole as it is very huge. So please view it at this time while you can and Bookmark it if you will. http://members.spree.com/sip/palisades/history.htm Constance

    3. Gary, There is a creek called Mossy Creek, and a location called Mossy Creek on highway 42, in Augusta County, near the county line with Rockingham County. This is roughly between Staunton and Harrisonburg, Virginia. I don't know about a cemetary, but hope that helps. 1. [VAAUGUST-L] Jane George, abt 1720-?1760, VA
    2. Juhling McClung
    3. Jane George married Thomas Carroll and lived in old Augusta Co, VA. Her father was probably Thomas George, probably born 1695-1700. If Jane was William Carroll's second wife, her father Thomas George may have been born a little later. William and Jane Carroll lived in old Augusta County on what later became the current Rockingham-Shenandoah Co. line William CARROLL [abt 1721 - 1771] moved from Frederick Co,MD to Augusta Co where he was a constable in 1742. His other wife's name was Mary. I suspect Mary was the first wife. I am seeking information on the George connections. Juhling McClung

    2. Pat Goodwin
    3. I located the following from a copy I have: Handy Book for Genealogists edited by George B. Everton Sr., Vital Record Sources. c. 1971 by Everton Publishers, Inc. "Until 1786 the Episcopal Church was the state church of Virginia. All Children, regardless of religious afflication, were required to be baptized by the ministers of that church. Dates of their baptism, together with their parents were recorded in the parish registers. The same information was taken of all marriages and burials. All of these church records are preserved, some are in printed. They are available in the Virginia State Library in Richmond." Does anyone have knowledge of any names of those books in print? Thanks Patti

    3. When George Blakemore died in 1844, his will included his request to be "interred in the burial grounds at Mossy Creek Cem. works". Another researcher has a copy of his Bible that says he was buried in the Miller Cemetery on Mossy Creek. I have been unable to find any reference to the location of this cemetery. Is it still in existence today under another name? Reading the handwritten copy of the settlement of the estate of George Blakemore, there are several lines where the letters "a/c" appear after the names of people who received a cash settlement from the estate. Also, on several lines it reads " his a/c on widows order". Does anyone know what these terms are referring to? Thanks in advance for any help. Gary R. My G G G Grandfather was John Colter b. abt. 1770 in Scranton, Va. He joined the Lewis and Clark Discovery Corp in 1804 in KY. He married in abt 1811 and died Nov. 1812. in the Mo. Territory in what is now Franklin County, MO. I think his father may be Joseph Colter m . to Ellen SHIELD. If you have any info on any members of his family it would be greatly appreciated.
