Hello everyone: I am new to this query list and am researching my 4 xs great grandfather Anthony Houston. I finally tracked him back from Scott (Bourbon ) County, KY to Augusta Co., VA. Before that he lived in New Castle County, DE. He was married to a Mary Moore and they had 15 children. Anthony was born March 10, 1757, married Mary Moore in 1778 in Loudoun County, VA and they eventually wound up in Scott County, KY. Is anyone else researching this family? Sue

In the Sitlington request (#4) there is a statement that I question. "Andrew died in 1787 without issue, widow Elizabeth. He made a will dated 1801." How can someone write a will after they die? Have I misread this or is it an error. I have no connection with this family. B. Horne. ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. Can someone tell me where I can obtain Probate Records from 1770 in Augusta County? Thank you, Bren
My cousin and I have gone over and over this lawsuit over a will and would like help from the researchers of the above named families. The Suit: SITLINGTON Heirs vs. SITLINGTON's Widow--0. S. 79; N. S. 27--Bill, 3d December, 1805.- Orators are viz: James KELSO, and Eltzabeth, his wife, John YOUNG and Polly, his wife; Nathan CRAWFORD and Jane, his wife; Jennet SLOAN (Kean?), Andrew BEATY and Agness, his wife; Edward McLAUGHLIN and Jane, his wife; of whom Elizabeth, Polly, Jane CRAWFORD, Jennet and Agness are the daughters and Jane ERWIN is granddaughter of John SITLINGTON, deceased. John was brother of whole blood of Andrew SITLINGTON, of Bath. Andrew died 1787 without issue, widow Elizabeth. He made a will, dated 1801, and this suit is to contest it on account of inability by age and infirmity, being 90 years old. Andrew had written to John in Ireland to come to Virginia. He married Elizabeth when aged. She was a MONTGOMERY? Her brother (?) John was a preacher. Defendants are viz: Elizabeth SITLINGTON(widow of Andrew), Jacob WARWICK, Andrew Sutlingon WARWICK, Andrew SITLINGTON (son of Robert SITLINGTON), John MONTGOMERY, and Andrew ERWIN. Jacob WARWICK answers that oratrix, Jane McLAUGHLIN, is niece of Andrew SITLINGTON, who is understood to have had a half-sister, Mrs. SHERMAN, living in Pennsylvania at his death. Andrew had married the mother of Jacob. Elizabeth answers that John SITLINGTON had a son, Robert, now living in Bath. James ERWIN is brother of Jane McLAUGHLIN. Andrew died 15th April, 1804. He was in his 85th year. John SITLINGTON came to this country in 1774. Andrew and Elizabeth were married in 1779. Andrew SITLINGTON's will dated 12th October, 1801. Proved in Bath County, June, 1804. Wife Elizabeth; legatee Gean CRAWFORD, wife of Nathan CRAWFORD. Legatee Andrew Sitlington CRAWFORD, son of Nathan. Legatee Gennet SLOAN and her daughter, Polly SLOAN. Legatee Polly YOUNG, wife of John YOUNG. Legatee Agness BEATY, wife of Andrew BEATY. Legatee Elizabeth KELSO, wife of James KELSO. Legatee Elizabeth, Sitlington KELSO, daughter of Elizabeth KELSO, Legatee nephew, James ERWIN. Legatee nephew, Andrew ERWIN. Legatee niece Jean McGLOUGHLIN, wife of Edward, and her son, Andrew McGLOUGHLIN. Legatee Andrew Sitlington McDONALD, son of Samuel. Legatee Elizabeth McDONALD, daughter of John. Legatee Elizabeth McDONALD, daughter of Samuel. Legatee Andrew Sitlington WARWICK, son of Jacob. Legatee Andrew SITLINGTON, son of Robert. Letter by Andrew to John dated Greenbrier, 25th September, 1776, speaks of brother William (in Pennsylvania), and brother Thomas, of sister Elizabeth. There is argument over what Elizabeth's maiden name was we have heard: DUNLAP WARWICK/McDONALD/above it is MONGOMERY(?). Does anyone know who these people are and how they relate to Andrew SITLINGTON, Jacob WARWICK, and Samuel MCDONALD. If this Elizabeth was the mother of Jacob then she would be our grandmother and we would love to know the complete story behind this. We have tried to do it on our own but have been unable to locate answers. Any help would be appreciated, we are stumped at this point. Please post to the list so we can all see the answers since so many families are involved in this. Thank You for any help you can give. Seek information on the following Sauers family members: Lydia Sauers, born Jan 18th, 1795. I believe Lydia married Levi Jernagin in 1844 and she died March 11, 1854. Susan Sauers, born Sept 16, 1782. I believe she married John Miller and that she died Feb 12th, 1850. I seek this information because these two ladies births and deaths are listed in the old family Bible of my gg grandfather,James M. Conner. James married Elizabeth Norcross in 1844 in Rockbridge Co. and they lived in the area near the Rockbridge Augusta Co. line. The old Bible lists several other family members, but I have no idea as to who these two ladies are or why they would be listed in his Bible. I have not been able to determine the mother of James M Conner, so possibly, these ladies could have been sisters of his mother. I would appreciate any information that might provide clues as to their identity. Keith Reed
Seek additional information on ARCHIBALD REED/REID. He was born about 1802-1805, I believe in Rockbridge Co. I believe he was the son of Emmanuel Reed and Catherine (Dice/Theiss) Reed. (I cannot prove his parentage). Archibald was married to Margaret Firebaugh in Augusta Co. on Sept 14, 1826. His marriage bond was signed by himself and Emmanuel Reed. Archibald's children were: 1. Andrew Reed b. Nov 8, 1827, d. July 10, 1892. Marr. 1st Eliza Clemmer, 2nd. Mary E. Clemmer. 2. Henry Adam Reed b. Nov 14, 1830 d. ? Marr. Feb 20, 1868 Catherine Emma Craig 3. John H. Reed b. I have a great amount of Reed/Reid/Reith information from the family in Rockbridge Co., from Franklin Co., Pa., from Berks Co., Penn. and from New York. These male members include Casper Reed, Philip Reed, Michael Reed Benjamin Reed Emmanuel Reed and William Reed. The original family name was Reith and they came from near Manheim Germany. The mother and 8 children arrived in New York in July of 1710. The father was named John George Reith and he died on board the ship Midfort while coming to America. Will share any and all information that I have. Keith Reed
Seek contacts on the following: I would like to share information with anyone researching the John Dice/Theiss family from Augusta Co. I believe that John had a son named Christian who lived in Rockbridge Co. and died there. I believe this Dice family originally came from Penn. to Augusta Co. Am willing to share all information I have. Keith Reed

Here's what I have gathered on these lines. My line traces through Henry Miller, born 1821.05.01 (reference questionable), died 1889.11.08, Brownsburg, VA at age 68, killed by Dr Z J Walker in the Brownsburg Courthouse shootout. Dr Walker had accused him of flirting with his (Walker's) wife (Henry being 68 years old at the time). Henry had married Elizabeth Bosserman (note the last name, Rilla220@aol.com -- these names intertwine a lot), and they had some ten children. Elizabeth was the daughter of Catharine Brubeck and George Bosserman. The Brubeck line traces back to Switzerland in the late 1500s. Back to the Millers, I too run out of leads at Joseph. By a questionable source, he was born 1790.12.07 and died 1856.05.11. By Ken Dice at the genserv database, Sarah was born 1791.01.05, Augusta Co, VA. Per Ken Dice, Henry Hawpe was born 1758.03.11, PA and died 1835.12.21, Augusta Co, VA.. Elizabeth Teaford was born 1763.03.11 and died 1847.04.07 (per same reference). Their children included: - Jane (B:1800.01.25; D:1858.11.06, Fountain Co, IN; W:George Dice, 1820.02.17, Augusta Co, VA) - Elizabeth (B:1792.12.01, Augusta Co, VA; D:1845.06.19, Fountain Co, IN; W: John Dice, 1818.09.08, Augusta Co, VA) - Sarah (B:1791.01.05, Augusta Co, VA; W: Joseph Miller, 1813.11.13, Augusta Co, VA) - Catherine (B:1797.08.01, Augusta Co, VA; D:1844.06.26, Augusta Co, VA; W: Thomas M Doak, 1829.06.09; W: Alexander Brownlee, 1829.01.19) - Henry H (B:1803.05.28, Augusta Co, VA; D:1859.03.20; W: Elizabeth L Doak, 1828.02.07; W: Sally N Mitchell, 1847.11.30, Augusta Co, VA) - John Teaford Hawpe (B:1806.05.24, Augusta Co, VA; D:1855.04.10, Augsta Co, VA; W: Mary S Newton, 1832.12.11, Augsta Co, VA; W: Eliza Lightner, 1840.11.10) Jacob Diufford/Teaford died ca1800. I have Christina as his wife, though this is probably just a different anglicization of her original name.Again, per Ken Dice's information, they wed before 1763 and had six children: - Elizabeth Teaford (B:1763.03.11; D:1847.04.07; W: Henry Hawpe, 1790.03.08) - George Teaford (B:1778; W: Mary Spotts, 1801.04.24) - Margaret Teaford (B:1760; W: Peter Koch, 1780.AB) - John Teaford (B:1772; W: Catherniah Runkle, 1793.03.12, Augusta Co, VA) - Jacob Teaford Jr (B:1768.AB; W: Barbara Gabart, 1791.02.22) - Henry Teaford (B:1774.03.08; W: Elizabeth Shoultz, 1796.10.22, Augsta Co, VA) Both Jacob's and Christina's ancestral lines seem to peter out. Rudolph Hawpe was born prior to 1747, Augusta Co, VA (per LDS Ancestral File entry TNBF-17). I have his spouse as a Catherine ??? (per Ken Dice's information). They wed prior to 1758 (if all children were legitimate) and had seven children. - Henry Hawpe - Mary Hawpe - Betsy Hawpe (B:1770; W: Christian Mummer, 1790.04.21) - Susannah Hawpe (B:1774; W: George Coiner, 1794.06.03) - Emanual Hawpe - John Hawpe (B:1771; W: Ponny Neizer, 1791.04.23, Augusta Co, VA) - Adam Hawpe (B:1774; D:1802, Augusta Co, Va; W: Catherine Coiner, 1794.11.18, Augusta Co, VA) Again, both lines seem to peter out prior to this point. You will need to evaluate the sources for yourself, as I don't have original documents on these lines, but hopefully this will help you with leads. I would be very interested in any other information you are able to find, especially on the Miller line. -- John
