I think you might be hitting my Mcculloch (McCully-McCullogh) line. I will send your data to another researcher in my Matney family - Sarah McCully married Broadwater Matney in Washington County 1780-88 - my ancestor Walter Jefferson Matney was born in Knox Co., TN - he had older siblings born in Washington County, and younger siblings born in MO, then back in TN, we think Campbell County, Powell Valley area of TN. This has been very confusing because these people moved back and forth so much, but I'm sure it was because of the Indian problems. The men went out and filed on land that they couldn't live on, couldn't move their families to until it was safe. What is listed as Knox County for my GGGpa Jeff Matney, was probably a large section of TN called Knox until it was broken up into smaller counties. We've never been able to find anything on Sarah McCully, except that some of this family was from NC - I think we may have some connections here. The McCullough clan from Scotland was large, however, it is possible that all were related in some way from earlier times, and it is possible that all the McCulloughs (McCulloch - McCully and other spellings) in VA were also related in some way. We need to work on this together and see if we can connect these families. I find this very exciting. I'll gather some names and dates to share! Yeh, sure, HAHA the only present I want is how to enter this into the Rootsweb Archives. Linda hasn't contacted me yet but I'll bet she is on a much deserved vacation. I am not finished answering your requests but I need to tell everyone who mailed me Thank you's and those that I haven't answered yet...You are all welcome. Someone asked where and how I obtained this record. I sent for this record way back in the late 70's when I first started delving into my TOOL(E), FUDGE, STINSON,FOUTS/FOUTZ,WOOD,HERWEHE lines. As I remember it, I ordered it from an add from the Genealogical Helper. I remember that the booklet was very inexpensive because I ordered several other books at the time. This is the only one I kept. I donated the others to our local library long ago. I intend to go to our library and see if I could borrow it back and offer other look ups. :=) Right now, I'll just finish the ones I have. I hope that I can get this copied onto the archives and when I do I will notify everyone that I am ending the look-ups. Until then I'll answer everyone that asks. I feel as if I receive so much help from all of the Rootsweb family that this is a type of payback in some small way. Mickey in Iowa

There's a web page about the Bratton's http://grampa.gendex.com/~guest/69751/BrattonHomePage/ You may want to look there under "Andrew Bratton of Ireland D-Base" That's where I found what little I have. Also the book by Geo. W. Cleek, Early Western Augusta Pioneers, (1957) Has the following: Duncan McFarland died in Bath County, Virginia; married Anne Porter, daughter of a sea captain. Duncan McFarland was a weaver and was in Augusta County before 1750. He settled on Jackson River in what is now Bath County, Virginia. Both are buried near the George Cleek Cemetery in Bath County, Virginia in unmarked graves. The McFarland family abandoned their cabin home during an Indian raid in 1763 and took refuge in a nearby cave on the east side of Jackson River just opposite their cabin. After several years of discouragement by being continually harassed by the cunning Indians, descendants of Duncan McFarland sold their real estate to Jacob Cleek in February 1792 and settled in that part of North Carolina which is now included in Tennessee. Robert McFarland died in 1798; married Esther Houston, daughter of John Houston (1669-1755) and Margaret Crawford. I'm not ashamed of any of you, don't blame you a bit. Mickey made a very generous offer and considering all the genealogy data we do pay for, it is nice to get something free. Rootsweb and USGW are dedicated to free genealogy data! However, I think many of you are forgetting the dates involved, before 1747 - I didn't have much family in Augusta County this early. Also, Rev. Craig was a Presbyterian minister, so most of these names would be Scotch! Mickey, please publish your address so we can send presents, I'm sure many will be grateful enough to do so!
