Howdy Everyone! I recently discovered the father of my James H. Harris b.a1819 in Rockbridge Co. VA. But as yet can not find his mother. I do have several possiblities and was hoping one of you could help. I first find a Robert Harris married to Sarah (Sally) Carson. Now I've found several marriage dates for this couple leading me to believe there were more than one Robert Harris and Sarah Carson getting married. The earliest marriage date I find is 1818 in Rockbridge Co. VA. This one would make the most since for my Harris family since James was born in 1818. Then I find the 1850 Augusta co. VA census record for Robert Harris and Sarah Carson Harris. Robert Harris 55 Sarah 53 Susan 24 Robert 22 Sarah 16 Nancy 14 Notice on this census that my James H. Harris is not listed. My James H. was first married in 1847...so still could have been part of this family. Then I was sent a Carson file and this is a little bit of that file pertaining to Robert Harris and Sarah (Sally)Carson. Notice that the Robert and Sarah in the following are the exact same age as the ones in the above census reocord. Notice also that James H. Harris is listed in the one below. . Sarah (Sally) CARSON b. Jan. 6, 1797; d. April 8, 1872; m. Robert (Robin) Harris b. 1795 d. June 18, 1867. 1. Susan J. Harris. 2. James H. Harris. 3. Sara Isabel Harris. 4. Samuel C. Harris. The Sarah(Sally)Carson in this case is the dau. of Samuel Carson and Christina. and the grand daughter of Samuel Carson and Sarah Gibson. Are these the same two Robert and Sarah Harris families? I've also been told that the father of my Robert Harris is Robert Harris. This in unconfirmed but I would like to find it. This Patton name reminds me of something else that should be considered in these look-ups - 'Scuse me for buttin' in here - There were many James Pattons, I've found them over and over in Chalkley's, and you should remember at this period in history Augusta County covered many counties, many different areas of several states. Rev. Craig may have been the only Presbyterian minister within hundreds of miles. This was the era when the minister covered his church territory by horse holding services in different areas in different months. Even if he had a church he would do this, so to find these names in Rev. Craig's baptismal lists may not place these people in Augusta County. If you remember the story of Mary Ingles, an elderly James Patton was killed by the Indians who kidnapped her in 1755 in Montgomery County, west of Augusta. You should also consider that legal and church records can be found in Orange County for 1747, which was the parent county for Augusta. So, finding these names in these baptismal records is only the beginning for placing them in a given area. Just an additional idea to consider! We tend to forget how big Augusta was and which era we are talking about! Carmen, I have Frazer/Frazier research and correspondence (probably about 150-200 pages of Family Group Sheets, Wills, newspaper clippings, and lots of letters) collected by my grandmother (who died at age 91) Cassie Imogene Frazer Rickabaugh. Her Great Grandfather was Simion Hays Frazer b.1805 in N.C. m. 19 Nov.1826 in Wayne CO. IN. to Rebecca Valentine b. 1801 in KY. Simion Hays Frazer's parents were David Frazier and Sarah Hays. David's parents were George Frazier Sr. and Jane Grimes (his 1st wife). I can't find a William that married a Jean/Jane Finley but do any of my names sound familiar? I don't have any of my Frazer "stuff" on a data base yet but hope to submit it to the Rootsweb Archives when I get a chance. If any of my names sound familiar give me some other dates and names and I will go through the "stuff" and see what I have.
