Is anyone researching the line of William FRAZER who I believe was born btw.1700-1710 possibly in Scotland. He died 1764 in Augusta Co.,VA.? Had children: James b:btw.1735-1745 VA.,David and Amy. James moved to Ky abt 1788. His grandson James M FRAZER moved to Schulenburg, Fayette Co.,TX abt 1850. Got more info if anyone is interested!! Linda
I'm looking for information for Mary Ann SHELLY born ca 1828. She married William WHITE Jan. 30, 1845 in Augusta Co. According to an Augusta Co. land deed, Mary Ann SHELLY was a daughter of John SHELLY. In 1850 William, a wagonmaker, and Mary A. WHITE were residing in Mt. Sidney with 3 children--Margaret V., Jane M., and John William. It's probable she was widowed by March 1860. Sometime after 1860 she married a HUFFMAN. I visited the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ladd, Va. where Mary A. HUFFMAN (died March 7, 1891) is buried close to her son, John William WHITE & his wife Mary Agnes BROWN. Regards, Barbara Dimunno
This web site was created for the descendants of William Earl DODRILL (aka English Bill) (1750- ) English Bill Married Rebecca LEWIS [Daughterty] on July 23, 1782. The purpose of the web site is for researchers focused on this specific line to have a common place to share information. The site was created on myfamily.com and has storage for news, photos, family trees, etc. If you would like to join, email me at mshives@iname.com. Thanks, Mark Shives [A few of us descendants tried this with another one of my ancestors (Col. Isaac Gregory) and I think it's worked pretty well. So I thought I would try with this one.]
This is a GREAT site. I found a lot of my Gregory and Givens ancestors there. I'm even transcribing their grants into Word. Eventually I'll post them so all relatives to see. Another neat thing to try is to draw the land plot out. I can see new relationships based on who had which land plots and who were neighbors. One person had a very narrow strip of land that was just the banks of a river. (Gee, I wonder why he had to have that?) To me, it adds a lot more meaning than they were born, they lived, and they died. Mickey: This is super - I see some clues in here - The Battle of Kings Mtn. in the Rev. War in NC - which they have been talking about on the Rev. War List and I've only half-way paid attention - Also, the French and Indian Wars before the Revolution. If we examine those soldier lists we may find some connections with our part of VA - SW as opposed to eastern. Sometimes you have to sidetrack to learn about these bits of history to place your ancestors in a given area. I will be doing some searches in these areas to see if I can find my Matney-McCully connection. Sarah McCully married Broadwater Matney circa 1785-1790 in Washington County VA - at least they lived there - one of their first children was born in Knox County TN in 1797 - Knox County at that time encompassed a large part of TN - we think they actually lived in Campbell County or the Powell Valley - Clinch River area. We think the parents of Broadwater Matney were William Matney and Jane Brooks, probably from eastern VA - however, we've found no data to prove that. We've been stuck in this area for a long time - can't move back, we can move forward. My GG Gpa, Walter Jefferson (Jeff) Matney went to Oregon in 1843, the first large wagon train to Oregon - several of his brothers followed later, finally taking Broadwater, a widower, from MO - he died in Oregon. This is an interesting family that really got around in the east and the west. We thought this family was related to the Mattinglys. We now think they came to the US from Ireland as Matneys. They may have been related to the Mattinglys in England and the very early Mathanys from France (de Mathany - Matteneye) who have a long and interesting history in Europe. We have one English researcher interested in connecting the Mathanys and Mattinglys in England - In the US they are Matheny (Matheeny) and Mattinglys, two separate families with separate histories. The sons of William and Jane Brooks Matney were William, Brook, Broadwater which are surnames and the only Broadwater connection we can find is with the English Naval officers in the Rev. War - Ironically, there were Broadwaters in MD where the Mattinglys originally settled, descended from an English servant to an early settler. We also find McCulloughs there. I find it ironic that as a child, my favorite neighbors to visit in my neighborhood were the McCulloughs, as Mrs. McCullough made delicious cookies, and I always wished she was one of my Grandmas, and here I am all these years later looking for a McCullough relative! Such a small world we live in! Norma |I finally found the scroll that Willis Corbitt sent to me in the late |1970's.<snip>

Have just recently received information about a will for an Andrew McCoombe. Said to be in Will Book 7, page 56. Will dated Mar 15, 1788; proven Jun 17, 1788. Believe it's the right *McCombe* and if so, will tie into my Nickells, Erwin, Curry, McCallister lines...plus probably forgot a few. 8-) Do anyone know an address in Augusta that I could write to and obtain a copy of the above reference will. And does anyone know what the charges would be? Thanks so much, Gloria raglady@aol.com

I have their births, marriages, spouse's names and most of the death dates. Eli WOOD's parents were: Joel WOOD I and ? DAVIS. Resided on the South Branch of the Potomac River from about 1770 to about 1810. They had seven children. Joel Jr., Amos, Phoebe, Rachel,Anna, Rhoda and Eli. The family moved from Virginia to Ohio in about 1810, about 7 years after Ohio became a state. Joel's wife died shortly after reaching Ohio. He married again, this time to a widow who also had 7 children. Little information is known about any of Joel's children except Eli. I have a written family history researched by Loyd E. Wood who was a son of John Wesley WOOD one of Wesley WOOD's sons. Loyd remembered his grandfather told him that the Wood family came from England in the early Colonial days. One time when Loyd was at his grandfather's home he remember a discussion that a firm of attorney's in London had contacted his grandfather about a possible inheritance from large estate in England but he never heard any further discussion on the matter. He believed that Abraham WOOD was the great-great-grandfather of Joel WOOD. Abraham WOOD was a indentured servant who is believed to have been one of those who landed at Jamestown. He became a landowner in VA. and in 1646 was commissioned to construct Fort Henry. >From 1650 to 1673 he was a explorer who took parties some 1500 miles westward into territory now parts of W.VA., Kentucky and Tennessee. Barbara, I am so glad that you found the info helpful! That is what makes me do, and enjoy doing it. I get as much, if not more, enjoyment out of helping someone else than only finding info for myself. I am supposed to be leaving later today for a couple of weeks in WV & VA. I am going to try and make it to the battlefield to get some pictures, etc., to share with those of you who might be interested in them. Take Care!! Diana in Tampa (I bet you are alot cooler in Idaho than we are here...<g>
