Norma, According to World Family Tree, Volume 8, Tree #469, Abel Gibbons and Elizabeth 'Betsy' Bumgardner had a daughter Eveline Gibbons who married Andrew Bear. Eveline and Andrew had a daughter named Mary Bear who married a Mr. Coyner. Is this Mr. Coyner one of yours? -- Mary Taffet mdtaffet@syr.edu Norma Lewis wrote: > > We seem to have a full house today! > > My Augusta County names are: > Keinadt/Koiner with variations: Coiner, Coyner, Kyner, Kiner, Keiner, etc. [snip]
Looking for a Thomas Price who was married to a Ruth by 1780. They were probably in Shenandoah Co, VA as late as 1796. Thomas may have been born in Culpeper or Shenandoah Cos. It could have also been Augusta Co, depending on the date (1750's) with all the county boundary changes! Parents believed to have been John and Sarah Price. ANYONE have anything on this line? Penny

Hello, Considering the fact that my ancestors were among the earliest settlers of the Shenandoah Valley, and the fact that my mother was born in Harrisonburg (now Rockingham County), I have an awful lot of connections to the Augusta/Rockingham County surnames. Where to begin? Lewis/Lynn -- John Lewis from Donegal County, Ireland (1678-1762), wife Margaret Lynn -- John Lewis was founder of Staunton Lewis/Strother -- Thomas Lewis born Donegal County, Ireland (1718-1790) wife Jane Strother -- Thomas Lewis was surveyor for Augusta County for a number of years, he created street layout for Staunton Lewis/Yancey -- Frances Lynn 'Fannie' Lewis (1763-1845), husband William Layton Yancey Harrison/Cravens -- Daniel Harrison (1701-1770/Margaret Cravens Smith/Harrington -- John Smith (1701-1776)/Margaret Harrington Smith/Harrison -- Daniel Smith (1724-1781)/Jane Harrison Smith/McDonough -- William Smith (1775-1806)/Diana McDonough Kisling/Lingel-Lingle -- Christopher Kissling (1712-1774)/Anna Christina Lingel Miller/Koger -- Adam Miller (1703-1783)/Anna Maria Barbara Koger Miller/Baer -- Anna Barbara Miller (1726-1791)/Jacob Baer Kisling/Baer -- Jacob Kisling (1760-1835)/Anna Barbara Baer Other surnames that may potentially have Augusta County connections include: Kemper, Cavanaugh, Mauzy, Winsborough, Gibbons, Keffer. My active lines of research at this time are Gibbons, Miller, Baer/Bear, and two surnames not found in my direct line (Harnsberger, Conrad). Also, I know of the following Augusta County connection which I would be interested in following up with any active researchers of this lines: Abel Gibbons (1786-1877)/Elizabeth 'Betsy' Bumgardner -- Bumgardner's are from Augusta County. Last but not least, I have placed a number of old family letters online, at the following address: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~mdtaffet/letter_series.htm There are a number of names found among these letters that I cannot identify. Some of these names appear to connect to Page County, VA, some connect to Rockingham County, VA, and it is quite likely that some of them connect to Augusta County as well. If you recognized any of the "other individuals", please let me know. -- Mary Taffet mdtaffet@syr.edu

Okay, business first. My Augusta County surnames are: KIMSEY McCLURE McINTIRE GREGG and possibly REED CATHEY. As for squirrel recipes, and since we DO seem to be in the summer doldrums right now -- I think how our ancestors lived, including what they ate, is part and parcel of genealogy. I have some old cookbooks from my grandmothers and from my great-grandmother, that give several squirrel recipes, which I'll gladly share should anyone be interested (contact me off-list, since we don't want to offend those who consider genealogy a name and a date only). Not having tried the recipes myself, I can't vouch for their flavor, or even their edibility, so if you don't like 'em, don't blame me!!! Judy
I searching for CARROLL and REEVES. Thanks Noel Carroll Pennsylvania

> To All Our New Subscribers -------- > If you would like, please introduce yourself and tell us what > surnames > you are researching. Thanks for the welcome! I and 2 other closely related cousins are searching our FOXes-FUCHes in Augusta Co. Eldest known to Date is Mathias and Mary SPENCER Fox, by Census Records, born ca 1770, Va Several of their children were known to be in Orange/Culpeper Cos also. I'm suspect this was more a function of changing borders then anything else. Son Mathias m. Margaret/Peggy ROUSCH/ROWH in 1799, Augusta Co. (Thanks to the transcribers of the Scotch-Irish Chronicles this marriage entry also informed us our Fox was GERMAN Fuch!). Son Wm C (Abt 1801) m. Mary BURGESS (abt 1810) in Augusta Co. Their kids are known to have been born in Augusta, Greenbrier & Doddridge Cos. By 1860 Wm C. Mathias "jr" are in Doddridge Co. Va/Wv, with the Sr. Mathias and Mary living with the younger Mathias. Other Foxes In Doddr. Co. at this time, suspected to be kin are E. Fox and Seber Fox. There are other Foxes in the neighboring Cos that may prove kin (those changing boundaries again) and some of this generation's kin later lived in those counties. I have German PETERS (lots ot them!) who immigrated via Philadelphia, Lebanon and Lancaster Cos, PA to Augusta Co. Some later ended in Monroe Co Va/WV & one founded Peterstown. My Peters and Foxes intermarried twice (2 different generations and branch "twigs") but I do not know if they families were acquainted then, but members of both families before and after the Civil War moved to Fayette & Winnebago Cos, IA. I'm interested in the German history of migration to Augusta Co-I have no idea who the Sr. Mathias FUCH parents were or when the family immigrated. I'm still looking for more PETERS folks too. Will happily correspond and trade info with anyone. Crystal Crystal A.
