    3. To any interested parties: I believe we should start changing the subject on this message instead of attaching to it. I have gotten several emails in the last few days about possibly distantly related families to the Pattons and the Lynns, i.e., Kincaid, Breckenridge, Preston, etc. It would be much easier, I think, for all of us if names not specifically concerning the subject families be given their own subjects. Just my thoughts. Pat

    3. Hi Gay, The James Wilson in my line was the son of Mathew Wilson. Mathhew and his wife were lost in a shipwreck on the way to American but James and his brother Moses were brought to Philadelphia to stay with relatives and later moved to Augusta Co. He married a cousin, Rebecca Wilson daughter of Thomas Wilson and Elizabeth Dinwiddie. One of his sons was William Wilson, pastor of the Augusta Stone Church. His son Thomas ( born 1765) was born in Fairfield, Rockbridge Co., became a lawyer and moved to Morgantown, then Virginia He was a member of Congress from Monongahelia County 1811. He died in 1826 in Morgantown. His children were Edgar, Alpheus, Norval, Agnes, James, Philander, Eugenius, Narcissa, George, Louisa Ann (wife of 1st Pres. missionary to India) Julia and two Marys. I have lots more on them if you think anything connects. I don't see a Jerimiah but I have a huge notebook of xeroxed stuff from Staunton so I will look more thoroughly and set back if I find something. 3. Agnes McClenachen Wilson Dean's daughter by John Wilson married John Kincaid and shows up in KY. Do you know anything about this John Wilson and this John Kincaid? Her daughters Alice and Elizabeth Dean marry John and James Kincaid, most probably the sons of Andrew Kincaid d 1811-2 Greenbrier Co. (My ancestress Elizabeth Kincaid is Andrew's daughter). Which of Agnes' children do you descend from? 3. Jane, I can't believe it. I, too, am descended from Robert McClenachan through his daughter, Agnes McClenachan Wilson Dean. I believe that Sarah Breckenridge was the daughter of Alexander Breckenridge and Jane Preston, although there are those who dispute this. Following are the notes I have from my genealogy database: "Although most historians agree, the fact that whether or not Sarah is the daughter of Alexander Breckenridge is disputed by James Malcolm Breckenridge in WILLIAM CLARK BRECKENRIDGE ; HIS LIFE, LINEAGE AND WRITINGS, page 119. As further confirmation of her birth, it is clearly stated that she is Alexander's daughter by grand nephew, Rev. Robert J.Breckenridge in letter to Lyman Draper dated 18 Aug. 1851 found in PRESTON AND VIRGINIA PAPERS OF THE DRAPER COLLECTION OF MANUSCRIPTS, 6ZZ2a (Roll 122). Death date can be assumed to be near June 17, 1794 by Augusta County Court Record Book XXIII, page 126 because Alexander McClenachan and Alex St. Clair are appointed administrators of the estate of Sarah McClenachan (CHRONICLES OF THE SCOTCH-IRISH SETTLEMENT IN VIRGINIA, Volume I, page 277). Although a copy of this decree was found in the Family History Library, I have not yet found any probate. The marriage possibly took place in Ireland before emigration and will probably be impossible to establish, given the nature of Irish records. TODO: Try to find marriage in Ireland before emigration" According to what someone wrote on this list, they probably came from Donegal in the Lettterkenny area. I dn't know if it is possible (I don't think so) to find a marriage for Robert and Sarah Breckenridge. I don't know if church records for Donegal, Letterkenny area, are available in Dublin . I have a friend who lives in Antrim, and she is constantly reading newspapers which go back pretty far in Dublin. You might want to take a look at that. Good luck and contact me after you get back. I'm curious to know from which child you are descended. Pat At 02:54 PM 5/9/2004, you wrote: >I am descended from Alexander Breckenridge as well as Robert Poague and Robert >McClanahan. 3. Hi Lynda: I think this may be two different families - of all the variations in spelling for the Kinnears - Keener or Keiner is not common. No Ulrich or Adam in the index. There was a large PA family in my Kinnear family group. There is also a vrey large Simpson connection that brings General/President Grant into the family. His mother was a Simpson and they relate to the Kinnears. Sorry I could not help. John

    3. I am descended from Alexander Breckenridge as well as Robert Poague and Robert McClanahan. At least Breckenridge settled in Chambersburg PA for a short time before going to Staunton VA. I live about 12 miles from Chambersburg. I am leaving for Ireland next week and while I expect very little free time in Londonderry can anyone suggest any books that might be available there or questions I can ask the guides and others I meet about these families or generally about emigrants of the 1720-40's - where they would have left from etc. Most of these families seem to have been from the Londonderry area. 3. In regard to James and Henry Patton, has anyone discovered a relationship to the Alexander Breckenridge family? I have always felt there was in some way. I have the following notes in my genealogy database, if it is of interested to anyone. TODO: Chalkleys vol. 1 page 419 County court judgements June, 1803 (I to Z): suit Mathew Patton vs. Archibald Thompson - defendant, servant of plaintiff, had enlisted as a solder under Capt. Gibson. Talks about William Patton, John Patton and James Patton one of whom possibly married Mary Briscoe in Carickafodan 1741 in parish of Donagh, Donegal, Ireland by Rev. Thomas Shawbridge. Also mentions Tulanree parish of Donagh, Donegal. Bill states that James is only son and heir of John who was only son and heir of William. William left them in Ireland in 1741. See if any information about this family in Ireland. Look for Breckenridges in same area. Further information: Will of William Patton dated 5 March 1793, he states that he married Mary Beaty, daughter of Alexander Beaty of the parish of Donnagh in the county of "Dunnigall" "sometime in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty. I had one son John which wife and son I left in Ireland about one year after my marriage aforesaid and whereas I have been informed that my said wife Mary is now dead,...I give and bequeath the whole of the remainder of my estate to my son John...." Alex St. Clair witness. It seems to me that somewhere along the line there was a relationship suggested, and that one of the Pattons shipped many people from Ireland, including he Breckenridges. Alexander Breckenridge's wife's maiden name is possibly Preston although I have also seen it as Patton. I had the wife as Mary Harris but no dates or locations. And to JOHN, I haven't heard of that book. Does it include an Ulrich Keener/Keiner/various spellings? If it does we may have the right family. You are right about one thing, the Keener's named all their children from the same list of names almost. One of the original immigrants Ulrich Keener did settle in Lancaster County, PA. before moving to Virginia. The other Adam Keener stayed in the Lancaster and York areas of PA I appreciate the information from both of you. Lynda Lynda, maybe Mary Harris was an ealier marriage or a later one Norma

    2. George, I noticed you said you had lots of info on McCunes so thought I'd see if you could possibly have information on the parents and siblings of a Sarah McCune (1708-1760) who married James McElroy. They came to America from Northern Ireland with the McDowells, Irvines, McCunes, Clintons and others in 1729. I have McElroys well documented but have not had much luck with the McCune line. Sarah is my 5G Grandmother. Any help would be appreciated. Pat
