    1. Re: [VAAUGUST] Henry C. McClung
    2. Thanks, Pat. I have read a lot of Chalkey's but because the McClungs liked using the same names over and over again, it is hard to keep the family lines straight. Not sure about how the LDS deeds work, but I have found out several times that their birth, marriage and death records are really no better than what you can find anywhere else on line. Just like anything else, the information is only as good as the person entering it and then only if they have the correct facts. I have learned not to depend upon what I find there. Anita

    3. there is a McClung on the list of subscribers to petition Rev. Brown to minister to Timber Ridge congregation 1753. I just posted the list to the Augusta Co. Genweb site; look under "other...". I might have some relatively obscure Kentucky McClung info if you want to contact me off-list. Kathryn

    3. I would suggest that you check in Chalkley's Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish in Southwestern Virginia. You can reach these three volumes online by entering Chalkley's in Google. Then I would also suggest that you order the deed index for Augusta County from the Mormon Family History Center. You might also try the index to the Will Books if you haven't done that already. Good luck, Pat At 10:27 PM 5/19/2004, [email protected] wrote: >Hello list. > >I am searching for information on Henry C. McClung, born about 1805. 1. RE: [VAAUGUST] Valentine & Berryman Jones, mid-1700's
    2. Margaret, I don't know of any Tennessee connection, but there is one in Kentucky. Or at least a possible one. Ambrose Jones, who may have been a brother of Valentine and Berryman, moved from Greenbrier County, where they had both settled, to Kentucky and had a family. He could have had kids who moved onto Tennessee. Below is the little that I know about him, in case you can make a connection. If you do, please let me know. Ambrose Jones came to Kentucky from Greenbrier Co, VA about 1788 and settled in Morgan Co at the mouth of Jones Creek, which is named after him. He was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1811 and was a member of the South Fork Baptist Church in Malone, Morgan Co. He was one of the preachers who established the Burning Springs Association in 1813. Ambrose Jones died June 12, 1833. Sons and daughters of the Revolutionary soldier and his wife, Martha Craig Jones, were William Jones, born October 23, 1785; Priscilla Jones, born February 18, 1787, married Isaac Nickell; Nancy Jones, born March 17, 1790, married a Ferguson; Richard Jones, born June 8, 1795; Jenny Jones, born May 3, 1792; Barbary Jones, born April 19, 1797, married John Howerton; Sinthy Jones, born June 12, 1799, married Uriah Cottle; James Jones, born October 24, 1807, married Lucinda ?; John Jones, born November 24, 1793, married twice, secondly to Sallie Cole. Good luck with your research! Kathy Jones-Kristof

    3. Hi, I have RALSTONs of Chester County, PA. They were wed probably around 1740. I have Robert marrying Elizabeth BELL. Now there is a Robert married to an Elizabeth BELL who is found with daughters in 1740's Augusta County or possibly Bath County! Does anyone have anything that might tie these two lines together? Or disprove this connection? Thanks, Vince Summers

    3. Kathy, I don't have any info on your Valentine Jones, but I do have a Valentine Jones that married a Lucinda Hopkins in Hancock co, Tn. From his tombstone: Valentine Jones b 1867, died 1909. I have tried to trace him but no luck. He doesn't seem to belong to any of the other Jones families that settled in Hawkins/Hancock co, Tn. Could he have been named for his grandfather? Do you have any info on any part of your Jones line that may have settled in this area? 3. Pat, those Chonicles are fantastic! Thanks so much for pointing them out. I can see where my confusion is. I looked at my sources again,( including the Descendants of Robert and John Poague) and two places say that Thomas Poage, Robert Poage's youngest and I think the only one born in Virginia, married Agnes McClanahan but two other sources say he married Mary (Polly) McClanahan. There was an Agnes and a Mary in almost every generation for a while and I think now the sources that say Thomas married Mary McClanahan are correct. Thank you so much for your help on this. 3. Jane, If you see where this family belongs, let me know. This is my husbands line and I haven't researched it. But the following is what he knows. William Wilson Sr. maybe his line no information on him but did have the following children: Elizabeth md David Hart in Jan 29, 1798 Augusta Co, Va. William Jr. Jane md Cornilius Vanosdale April 2, 1785 Elibabb Ralf I have know idea where the above info came from. Ancestor is for sure is Jeremiah Wilson md Kate Cooper. The family went to Nicholas Co, Ky. W. Thomas Wilson was born May 29, 1786 Augusta Co, Va md Catherine Crose in 1807 Bourbon Co, Ky. The Crose line is from Bath Co, Va. This is all a mess and I need to straighten it all out. If anyone can find where Jeremiah Wilson fits in, I sure would like to get him where he belongs. Lyndon Nix

    1. Re: McElroy and McCune families
    2. Notice the conversation on the list regarding the above two families and wonder if there is any connection to the following. I have a Robert McElroy b abt 1794 in Ireland who married Rachel ? b about 1808 in Ireland. Their children were Ellen b abt 1831 who married John Weese, John b abt 1838, Mary A. b abt 1840, Catherine b abt 1841 and Rebecca b abt 1845. These people were in Jackson County, Ohio by 1845 when Rebecca was born. Census show the older children as born in Ireland. My ancestor is Ellen who married John Weese. Also regarding the McCune's. Samuel McCune b abt 1805 in Pennsylvania, wife Mary or Marion Nelson b Ohio May 18, 1803. Children Nelson b abt 1830 m Anna Weese, Annie b abt 1832, David b 1834, Martha J. b abt 1835, Wallace b 1840. All of the above were in Jackson County Ohio and most were buried there. Are there any connections to your families and can you furnish any other info. If you need to e-mail me direct address is [email protected] John Weese who married the McElroy and Annie Weese who married the McCune were brother and sister. Look forward to hearing from you. 2. G. Lee Hearl
    3. I am interested in McClanahan/Harrell, Herrell etc. connections and hoping someone may have learned the names of sons of Simon Herrell of Northern Va. by his first wife. One of the daughters married a McClanahan about 1810, I believe his name was Robert McClanahan. Simon Herrell married Lydia Harrison, a widow, about 1815-16 and they had a son named George Harrell, Herrell etc. I have found three daughters by his first wife but no names of sons. Any Clues, Information or Discussion Appreciated! G. Lee Hearl Authentic Appalachian Storyteller Abingdon, Va.

    3. There seems to be much confusion over this Agnes. If you go to Chalkley's Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia l(court records of Augusta County) and follow through on Agnes McClenachan, Agnes Wilson, John Wilson, Agnes Dean, it help to clear up the matter. Chalkley's can be found online or in hardback in a lot of libraries. We know that Agnes was married to John Wilson because she is mentioned several places as the wife of John Wilson. We know she is the daughter of Robert McClenachan because she is mentioned in his will as Agnes Dean. We know she was married to John Wilson because she is referred to in his will. We know she is the wife of John Dean because she is mentioned in his will. We know that John Wilson had a daughter, Sarah, who married John Kinkade because she and her husband are both involved in the sale of a piece of property to Brownless along with Alice Dean. I believe all of this circumstantial evidence proves that Agnes is the daughter of Robert McClenachan and the wife of both John Wilson and John Dean. I hope this clears up the problems with Agnes McClenachan Wilson Dean. I descend from her daughter, Elizabeth Dean who married James Kincaid. Pat I do not know of another child of John Wilson's. I do not have Thomas Poage in my database, but he also can be found in Chalkley's.
