Sarah, Would you give me an approximate time period for his birth and the names of a few of his children? Off the top of my head, I don't know, but I can certainly check my information. I have some peripheral census data on Despers. My Despers are from Albert G. Desper and Henrietta Reynolds who were out of Louisa County. They were married around 1828 in Louisa County. There was a Joseph Reynolds on their marriage bond. Their daughters Sarah Elizabeth and Martha married Tankesleys brothers (Henry C. and William) Feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] so we can collaborate more specifically. --- Heather >Heather, I have a Joseph Lee Desper that married Victoria Clements. >Victoria's parents were Wilson Clements and Betsy A Thompson. Will someone tell me again what the O.S. and N.S. stand for. I've just come across my own chancery case and all I can remember is that they "don't" stand for old style and new style. Dear Augusta rootsweb,For quite some time, I have been intending to say thank you to the group of people who took the time to put the entire three volume's of Lyman Chalkley's records for Augusta Co, VA (1745-1800) on line. This invaluable research tool has made it possible to identify the hundreds of court records that my small BERRY family research group needed to obtain in order to fully document this large extended early Augusta family. Recently, a DNA project was started for the BERRY surname, and I'm thrilled to say that our reseach has been verified by the DNA results. The BERRY DNA project covers BERRTs from anywhere, of course, but three present day well documented descendants of three branches of the early Augusta BERRYs have now been tested and match each other perfectly on 25/25 markers. This DNA doesn't prove paternity, of course. But it does serve to verify that the massive documentation we have put together and the conclusions that one can draw from the d! ocumentation can be trusted. Anyone who is researching early Augusta families and uses Chalkley as a guide can thank the generous people who worked hard to put Chalkey's records on-line. With thanks, Carol VassKent, WA
Joyce, Those names are not on my transcribed list. I went to the Staunton, VA. Library and copied the church records from microfilm. There is also a book there where Ilse M. Martin & George M. Smith translated most of the records in 1966. I do not think it is published but it is available for you to copy and it is held in reference and cannot be checked out. Best of luck, Susie ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, July 15, 2004 3:32 PM Subject: Re: [VAAUGUST] St. John's Church Register > Dear Michael, > > Thank you for your offer of lookups. Linda, My 4 Great Grandfather, Reverend John Brown, was a preacher at St. John's during a period between the early 1800s to the 1840s. Unfortunately, I don't have exact years he preached there. However, he kept a personal memorandum book which included the list of "Confirmands St. John's Church, 21 October 1800, a "Congregation List for St. John's for 1801", and the list of "Confirmands St. John's Church, 29 May 1803". If a lookup from any of those three would be of help to you, just let me know. Does anyone have a copy of St. John's Church Register German Reformed and Lutheran, Augusta County, VA, for 1748-1872? I would like a lookup if possible. Linda
Do any of you have connections with local VFW Post in Augusta Co. that might help with an unidentified photo of a WWII soldier? I believe that this soldier might have been connected to a West Augusta area family. You may respond to me directly [email protected] Karen

I was wondering if anyone on the list has any information about a John W. Kincaid that married Mary A. Baldwin 19 May 1841 in Augusta County. I am trying to either include or eliminate Mary A. Baldwin from our line but cannot find any information about her. Neither of their parents were on the marriage bond. Any help would be appreciated. Susie
