Based on a previous mis-spelling for his marriage, this John Warely is my John or John George Wehrly. Rockingham County was formed in 1778. I checked the 1810 census records and did not find your Henry Wehrly; there was a John Warely and an Andrew Warely. Help, please. Can anyone tell me how long an immigrant had to be in the US in the late 1800s or early 1900s before they could be naturalized? Anita McClung Fayette County, WV

There is a North Mountain in Rockingham County--which used to be a part of Augusta County--you may want to check there. Thanks Carol: I felt that the researcher was incorrect or mistaken. Appreciate you taking the time to answer. Constance
Query- I am researching WEHRLY over 4 generations, from Codorus Township, York County, PA to Augusta County, VA to Preble County, Ohio. My line is Dietrich WIERLY(aka Didier Verli in Alsace) in PA > John George WIERLY(Jean Georg Verli in Alsace) in PA & VA>John George WEHRLY, Jr? in Augusta County, VA>Samuel J. WEHRLY in Augusta County(?), VA to Preble County, Ohio; between 1750 and 1830. John George, Jr(WARLEY) married Magdalena Aker in Augusta County, 28 Mar 1796. I have him as born in Middlebrook, Agusta County in 1775. I have Magdalena Aker born 1775. If sources are correct, she died in 1850 and is buried in Preble County. Samuel J. WEHRLY was born 24 Mar 1797 in VA and moved to Preble County where he died 20 Jun 1886. I am trying to verify this line from Dietrich to Samuel J. and fill in some blanks. I have little more from Augusta County, except possibly "George Wehrly" in Middlebrook Twp in the 1820 census. Is it possible to find land records through the Staunton Courthouse or elsewhere with this much information? Their church affiliation in this era was German Baptist Brethren, or possibly Mennonite. I am told a brother to J.G., Jr, Henry Wehrly, who died in 1822, had land near North Mountain. This land was probated and sold by 1830, the proceeds going to Henry's heirs. A Henry Wehrly appears on the same page as George Wehrly in the 1820 Census for Middlebrook Twp. Russell H Sarver Centerville, Ohio [email protected]
Hi, I want to share information with other researchers of the above names. I have quite a bit, but also need quite a bit, also. Particularly I need parents for James T. BRIANT, b. 1790, VA. I know that somewhere out there someone holds the key! Thanks, Cousin Mary in OK WILLIAMS, BRYANT/BRIANT, ALDERSON, WINFREY, DODD, TURPIN, ADAMSON. All VA & TN
Dear Constance: I don't know anything to help you on the Elizabeth Berry/James Frazier marriage, but I don't believe that any of the Garrett Berry descendants were in early Augusta County. I can't remember right now where in Virginia Garrett Berry was -- I think you could find the info doing google -- but I guess what I want to say is that the Thomas Berry Sr/Ann couple that you mentioned was not in Augusta County. The Garrett Berry line is pretty well researched, so you might be able to find someone who has done good research on them. [As it happens, of course, there was 'a' Thomas Berry Sr living in Augusta. His 1st wife's name was ____ Buchanan and 2nd Esther Ward. Thomas Sr had a daughter named Elizabeth with his 2nd wife. Elizabeth was born ca 1756 and presumably married 'a' James Harris. I work on the Augusta BERRYs and do not believe there was any connection between them and Garret Berry.] Carol Vass
I know of four, although there may be more. St. Paul's Reformed Cemetery is on Route 276 (Cross Keys Rd), Melanchthon Lutheran Cemetery is right behind it--these to the north of Weyers Cave. Further south on Route 276 through Weyers Cave and through the light--I believe it is on the corner--is a Click family cemetery--just a few stones, I believe all Click. Further still is a Brethren Church with a rather large cemetery. Deb Wake Richmond, VA At 03:04 PM 9/7/2004, KENNETH M. Dear List: Recently, I ran into a researcher who says that James Frazier, son of John Frazier, Sr. of Augusta County, VA married Elizabeth Berry. I'm hoping that some of you Berry folks can tell me if that's correct? This is the information I was provided: Elizabeth Berry b. 6/5/1745 VA d. 6/5/1840 Jessimine Co, Ky m. James Frazier 3/12/1864 in Augusta, VA. She was the dau of Thomas Berry Jr. and Catherine Babcock gdau Thomas Berry Sr. and Ann. GGdau of Garret Berry and Elizabeth. Constance Flagg Spring, KY

Well, the mystery of the census index is solved. I had received a notice from Ancestry (which I pay for) to the effect that the 1850 and 1860 census is indexed by every name on the census, not just the head of the household. If you subscribe to Ancestry, you will notice these 2 census years are flagged, but no explanation is given, at least that I could find. Hope this helps some of you. Thanks to all who e-mailed me. Press on! Beverly [email protected]
Hi List, Are the Hemps in Augusta Co. related to the Hemp family in Shen. Co.? In Shen. Co. Casper Hemp married Magdelina Spore Aug. 16, 1785. Later, in Washington Co. TN, Jacob Mauck/Mock married Margaret Hemp in 1811. They are my g-g-grandparents. I do not know the parents of Margaret (Hemp) Mauck. In Shen. Co. VA, Casper Hemp sometimes appeared in the household of Jacob Spore on the tax rolls. Any comments? Jerry Spore
Good morning, fellow researchers! I am looking for anyone else researching the MOREDOCK/MURDOCK/MORDOCK line. In particular a John Moredock who was born in MD and then lived and died in Augusta County. John was married to Catherine MAYNES/MEANS approximately 1719 in Augusta Co. and John died in 1786 in Augusta County. I found this information on the Internet and am looking for a will for John to prove these dates as well as his children. Does anyone have access to wills or land records from this time period to show John and his children?
