Hello, I'm new to this list, although I belong to the Rockingham and Rockbridge County Lists. Is anyone researching this BREW family? Henry BREW born in Ireland (according to the 1880 census), married to Catherine Suberly 18 Apr 1791 in Frederick Co., VA. I believe these are some of the children: Thomas BREW; DOB 05 Apr 1792; DOD 14 Dec 1879; married Annie ?; Both are buried St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Singer's Glen, Rockingham Co., VA. Henry BREW; DOB 24 Sep 1802; DOD 12 Mar 1882; married Lovinah MURRAY 26 Sep 1829 in Augusta Co, VA. Both are buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Augusta Co., VA. 1860 Census they were listed at P.O. Burkes Mill, Augusta Co., VA; 1870 Census they were at P.O. Mt. Sidney, Augusta Co., VA. Elizabeth BREW married Philip BUSHONG 14 Feb 1815, Rockingham Co., VA. Millie BREW married Samuel SMITH 17 May 1821, Rockingham Co., VA. Would like to find out where this BREW family originated in Ireland. Thanks much for any information. Kay W. Gavin Minnesota
Hello I'm new to the list and am looking for information for any descendants of Henry Mayfield and Millie Davey. Both were born in Caroline Co, but Henry died in Augusta Co, 1814. I am pretty sure that all their children were born in Augusta Co between 1791 and 1803. Any help or information appreciated! Karen in Calif.

Dear Listers: I am trying to find the ancestors of a William Gregory b. @1797 in VA or KY who married a Frances Long and might be the brother to a James Gregory b. @1780. They are both supposed to be the sons of John Gregory and Elizabeth Castor possibly of Augusta County, along with another brother David Gregory b. 1801. William and James both ended up in Vinton County, Ohio with their families. John Gregory is supposed to be descended from a Naphthalum Gregory one of the first to come over in the mid-1700s. Thanking you all in advance for anything you can help with. Sincerely, Janice Connell Whidbey Island, Washington State .
Hello. Can anyone please do a marriage look-up for me? Harrison Spangler appears on the Augusta Co. 1850 census with wife Sarah. It would seem that they married 1844-1846. I would like to know her maiden name and her father's name ,if possible. Thanks so much for the help. Karen Lee Williamsburg,VA
There are two very brave men buried in Augusta County: Samuel David Crenshaw, VMI Class of 1867, Staunton, cemetery unknown Francis Walker Page, VMI Class of 1866, Staunton, cemetery unknown We need photos of the graves. The VMI Corps of Cadets fought as a unit at the Battle of New Market, Virginia, on May 15, 1864. Two hundred fifty seven cadets were on the field. Ten cadets were killed in battle or died later from the effects of their wounds; 45 were wounded. The youngest participating cadet was fifteen; the oldest twenty-five. Two VMI alumni are attempting to obtain photos of the graves and biographical of all 257 cadets who fought in the Battle of New Market in the Civil War. This is a HUGE task. RAoGK has offered to help with the database. You can visit their web page at http://www.augustagavmiaa.info/ and click on the New Market Cadet database. Read about the battle at http://www.vmi.edu/archives/Civil_War/cwnm.html . Hopefully someone on this list has the time to locate and photograph the grave. We welcome any additional biographical information not in the VMI archives or "The Corps Forward" by Couper and Gibson. If in doubt, send what you have and we will compare it. ;-) Please send to me, sarahreveley@grandecom.net . I will then combine all the data on him and send it to them. They contacted me about my ancestor George Francis Reveley, who was a cadet then, and I volunteered to help them get the other graves photographed, knowing we have so many wonderful people on Rootsweb that will help. ;-) Thanks, Sarah Reveley San Antonio, Texas sarahreveley@grandecom.net

Have just had a "clue" they may have come through Augusta Co. VA. I have researched my GG GF, John Johnson, b. @ 1780-90 VA and his only known sibling, William Johnson, b. @ 1777-1779 VA for years. I do not know their parents names, nor do I know any of their siblings. However, I do have fairly extensive records on their descendants. John Johnson was married twice: first time @ 1807-1809: first child, Canaday, born in TN in 1810: second child, Sarah/Sally, b. 1813 TN. No info on first wife. Second wife, Loveth "Lovie" Louisa Pullen, b. 1802, d/o William Pullen, whose 1841 will is on record in DeKalb Co. AL. I have records on all of their children. John Johnson died MO @ 1854. Lovie died MO 1882, and has a stone in Douglas County. William Johnson, b. @ 1779. His wife was named Sarah (from 1850 census DeKalb Co. AL in HH of her son, Aaron Johnson). I believe William died in the War of 1812, but that is just a guess. Their last child b. 1814, possibly 1815. These families migrated to MO in 1840's and 1850's. After the Civil War, they went to the four winds. My line came to Texas in 1888. Then, to Oklahoma (for land) in the very early 1900's. Does this ring a bell with anybody out there? Would like to touch base with you if you see any connections on these families.
