    3. I do have several names, etc. My gggrandfather was SAMUEL ELLIS(Elias)MARTIN. born abt. 1824 in Amherst Co. I am not sure of his parents or siblings. I think they may be William E. Martin and Tinsy Lawhorn(e), from research of county records. SE is in a few land records, paid taxes, but never any reference to family members.. SE Martin lived in Amherst Co, until the late 1860's when he moved with his family to Rockbridge Co, around Lexington. He fought with Amherst Co., in the War Between the States. He is HOH in the 1850 census, living with Nancy Hartlesss, however, VA. records show they did not marry unitl 1860. He had several daughters, off the top of my head this A.M., 8, but only one son, William Ellis Martin. born abt 1846-49 in Amherst. William married first Lucy Lawhorn(e), daughter of William and Cassandria, in Amherst Co., and had at least 6 children, including my grandfather, James William Martin. About 1885 he married Nancy Cash, in Amherst Co., but he was in later Rockbridge Co. census records. They had 7 or 8 more children. SE Martin died in March of 1904. W.E. Martin died in 1932, both in or around Lexington, VA. I do have the names of their children should anyone be interested. I do think that due to circumstances, distance, etc., many of these families didn't know of each other. I have found one relative in Lexington who had no idea that her grandfather had any brothers. Regards, Phyllis
