I have recently gotten involved in the Phillips Worldwide DNA project which is being conducted at familytreedna.com. Two male Phillips cousins of mine got tested and matched perfectly on 25 out of 25 markers, although they are only very distantly related - about 6th or 7th cousins, as far as I can tell. In fact, we were not certain they were related before they took the test. I know that there were 12 different Phillips families on the first (reconstructed) Amherst County census of 1782, and I would love to find out whether all of these Phillips families were related. If straight line male descendants of those 12 families would agree to be tested, we could figure this out. The DNA test is painless and only involves swabbing the inside of the cheek with a special toothbrush or scraper. The identity of the participant is kept confidential. If you know any straight line male descendants of the early Phillips families of Amherst County, VA, please contact me. Sincerely, Nancy Kiser PS - There is also a Phelps DNA project being conducted, and it has proven that the Phelps and Phillips of Amherst County were NOT related.
