I just took a glance at the 1800 Amherst County Parish Tax roster and find 2 Gilberts: Ezrkiel with 1 white male over 21, 2 horses\ Henry with 3 white males over 21, 3 horsews and 1 slave That may not help but it does acknowledge that Gilberts were in Amherst County in 1800.
