I am at a dead end in my research for accurate information regarding my Amherst County, Va., ancestors, and I am hoping someone will be able to help me find undisputable records. I have traced my gggg grandfather, William Angus Sr., born ABT 1750 in Galloway, Scotland, arriving in America 1774. He stayed only a short time in New York before moving to Virginia. He married Elizabeth Martin, the daughter of John Martin and Millie Rucker BET 1774-1775; they settled in Lincastle, Amherst Co., Va. They had at least seven Children: James,Jane, Elizabeth, Mary Polly, Nancy, William, and Alexander. Substantive records show James, Jane, Elizabeth, Mary Polly, and Alexander Angus set trail ABT 1806-1809 from Amherst Co., Va. enroute to Giles Co., Tn. Some researchers alledge William Angus Sr., was also in the group, but died enroute. There are others who alledge William Sr., died before 1806 back in Va. However, no records have been found to substantuate either allegation. Also, most researchers alledge Elizabeth Martin Angus and William Angus Jr., stayed behind in Virginia. Again, no records have surfaced to prove one-way-or-the- other as to whether Elzabeth Martin Angus ever joined the others in Giles Co., Tn. or stayed on in Virgina. The fact is... no records have surfaced as to what happened to her after ABT 1806. I can only assume that William Angus Jr., remained in Amherst County, Va., based on a 1880 Amherst County, Va., Census which lists the widow of William Angus, Elizabeth Fulcher living in Temperaance, Amherst County, Va., with her son Timolian Angus. Any and all positive information will be greatly appreciated. My direct E-mail address is: [email protected] I have quite a bit of information regarding the Tennesse Angus families that I will share with distant cousins. So, if there are any queries, E-mail me the particulars, and, I will surely respond. Sincerely, Flournoy English
