Hello Sandi, William Angus born about 1790 (the 1860 census says b. 1781), died before 1870. The 1860 census lists him in Amherst Co VA. He was the son of William Angus, who was a Revolutionary War Veteran, who died before 1806, and Elizabeth Martin. William Angus b. about 1790 married to Elizabeth FULCHER, married 5-29-1810 Amherst Co VA, daughter of John Fulcher and Elizabeth Huckstep, her marriage bond was signed by James Fulcher. Elizabeth Fulcher was born abt 1796 and died after 1870. I have 7 kids listed for them: Martha Agnes; William Jr.; Mary; Sarah; Elizabeth; Jane; Philip. William Angus, Jr b. 1838 d. before 1900, married Lucy Ann Cash, d/o James T. Cash and Henrietta Mays. The above listed information came to me from various researchers sharing their own information. I am not personally related to this family, but I will now explain why I am interested in the ANGUS family in Temperance, VA. My own ancestor is Henry W. Campbell b. 1855 at Temperance, VA. He left the area after 1882 and moved to Texas, then as of the 1900 census he was at Sunray, Oklahoma, it what would later become Stephens Co OK. His daughter Beulah Lee Campbell married a man named Elmer Ernest BATES, the son of ANGUS Bates, and Mary ANGUS. In the 1900 census this Elmer Ernest Bates is listed in the household of Henry W. Campbell as COUSIN, at that point Beulah and Elmer were not yet married. The death certificate of Elmer E. Bates, in Dallas, TX states his mother was Mary ANGUS born in VIRGINIA. This situation has caused me to believe that Elmer E. Bates, through his mother, could be related slightly to my ancestor Henry W. Campbell. Henry W. Campbell is the son of George T. Campbell b. 1824 d. 1856, and the father of George T. Campbell has never been proved. According to family trees and unsubstantiated stories, George T. Campbell is the son of Cornelius Campbell and Catherine Campbell. But since there is no proof of that, I was hoping perhaps this BATES and ANGUS connection might throw some light onto the Campbell ancestry. I know there is also the BATES name in Amherst Co VA, and it could be that the parents of Elmer E. Bates are both from the Amherst Co VA area originally.
