Sure, there's nothing wrong with discussing the Civil War in general. This just isn't the list for it. People join this is list specifically to discuss Amherst County history and genealogy. Obviously, the Civil War had some impact on the region and is going to factor into discussions with that aspect in mind, but let's try not to let broader subjects overtake the list. For certain, discussions on modern day controversial subjects such as flying the Confederate flag would be against the policies of the Rootsweb service. And we cannot ignore the Civil War or its ramifications. BTW: A.T.'s CSA veteran ancestors are mine, too. Most were poor as churchmice and, so far, we have not found one who owned slaves.
