Hello again, Thank you for the information on the families and the marriages. However, George Black is too late for a connection to William B and I think there is a mistake in Maria Garland's birth date. I guess we both have to keep looking. Thanks again, Liz --- On Tue, 9/1/09, Brenda Louise Hudson <californiapoppy1991@yahoo.com> wrote: From: Brenda Louise Hudson <californiapoppy1991@yahoo.com> Subject: Re: [VAAMHERS] ROLL CALL - Winston, Stuart, Richeson, Garland, Black, Scruggs To: vaamhers@rootsweb.com Date: Tuesday, September 1, 2009, 10:58 PM Hello Liz: The info I have found on the Black/Garland family is: George Black- born around 1850 married Manerva Garland around 1874. Now thru Thursday, just post a message to this list with "ROLL CALL" and the applicable surname(s) in the subject if you want other to know who you are researching. Please only list those surnames who were in Amherst County, VA at some points. Mentioning the maiden name of the individual or their spouse might help as well. My DEAVER line was in the part of Amherst County which is now Nelson County around the time of the Revolutionary War. They lived in the Roseland area, which I visited a couple of years ago. I did locate some land records for them at the Amherst County Museum and visited the approximate region where they lived. William Deaver, Sr (1719-abt 1805) was the father who had about 8 sons and one daughter, all born in MD. It is believe three of the sons served in the Revolutionary War. William Deaver, Jr. was recognized by SAR/DAR as a private in the Virginia Militia and is buried in MS. His brother Richard (1768-1820) was my ancestor, who was too young to serve at the time. William Sr was married to Susannah Birchfield. There were Birchfields living near the Deaver land in Amherst County, so I assume they likely migrated from MD together. William and Susannah were married 1754 in MD, though. I believe the family likely came to VA around 1770. (The Deaver line arrived in MD from Scotland in 1657.) William Sr does show up in the 1783 VA head of household census, but not the 1784 census. They moved about that time to western NC, where several of the sons were among the founders of Buncombe County in 1792 and Haywood County in 1804. My particular line went to TN and GA around the 1850s and here to TX around 1877. Looking forward to some interesting narratives. Joe D.
