In October of 1777, my ancestor, Nicholas PHELPS, was drafted and mustered under Captain Billy JOHNS. He rendezvoused at Buckingham Courthouse (Virginia) and marched under Major BELL to Williamsburg, Va. when Colonel Joseph CAVIL(sic) {CABELL} was Col. of the Militia and General MAY commanded. He was in no battle, the British never came in while he was at Williamsburg. Where we remained until disbanded the latter part of March 1778. He was Disbanded by General MAY. Does anyone have information about any of these men or their assignments? JOHNS, BELL, CABELL, MAY. I would like to know what county they came from. THanks. Mary
