    3. >From little booklet of biographical sketches found in Amherst County Historical Museum. Appears to be on Civil War vets and/or prominent Amherst County men. Written while most of the men were still alive. Alexander F. Wills, M.D.- is a native of Nelson county, Virginia, born October 3, 1833, a son of Willis H. and Elizabeth H. (Peters) Wills. His father, born in Nelson county, died in 1846, and his mother, who was born in Bedford county, died May 24, 1862. Anna Virginia Norval, born in Trenton, Gibson county, Tennessee, November 28, 1838, was a daughter of Fayette H. and Mary C. (Roane) Norval. Her parents were natives of Campbell county, Virginia, and her mother died September 23, 1857, her father died February 24, 1861. In Amherst county, November 4, 1858, Alexander F. Wills and Anna Virginia Norval were united in marriage, and the birth and death record of their children is: Alexander N., born February 22, 1860, died September 4, 1864; Willie H., born November 22, 1862; Mary E., born August 20, 1864, died June 9, 1867; Anna V., born April 12, 1867, died August 29, 1870; Don F., born August 16, 1869; James H., June 23, 1872; Corinne Roane, April 1, 1875; Sallie Barney, July 13, 1877. Dr. Wills entered the Confederate army May 14, 1861; as a private in the Lynchburg Beauregard Battery, and after four month service was appointed assistant surgeon of the 45th Virginia Infantry, serving for four months, after which he was acting assistant surgeon at hospital at Emory and Henry College for nine months, and was then appointed assistant surgeon of the 18th Virginia Cavalry, which responsible position he ably filled till the close of the war. He was captured at Greencastle, Pennsylvania, but made his escape shortly after. He had three brothers in the service of the Confederate States. Dr. Wills has a small estate near New Glasgow, and as physician and surgeon is widely known and held in esteem through the county. His postoffice is Clifford, Amherst county, Virginia.
