Hello all, I am a new subscriber to the Amherst list, am researching the Carpenter families of early Amherst Co. VA, and will be glad to share data about them. I hope one of you can help with something I really really need for my research, but can't do from way down here in south Texas. Do any of you have access to the original deed books in the Amherst Courthouse? I need to see the original script writing in a 25 Feb 1782 deed in Deed Book E, p. 318. In this deed, Benjamin Carpenter and his wife sell land to James Luttrell. What I need to see is the spelling of Benjamin's wife's name in that deed. If someone could look up that page, copy it, and mail it to me, I would be glad to reimburse your costs, as well as very grateful.
