I knew that George's father was John McDaniel, but I don't have any information concerning the date or place of John's birth, except a possibility that follows. I have not been able to find who John's wife was or any marriage record for them. Wood(1932) cites a Bible record for George's birth on 17 May 1722 in King William Co, VA (it could have been in Richmond Co.), but George had 4 brothers, any of whom could have been older than George. His parents, then, probably were married at least by 1721. You show 1718 for the marriage - do you have a source for this? The same Bible record that Wood cites [the Bible belonged to Balda McDaniel, son of George and Dolly Waller Robinson McDaniel and grandson of George and Margaret Goff McDaniel. A copy of this family record is available at the Jones Memorial Library in Lynchburg, VA: "Bible Records of Families" 929.3 B] states that "[George's] father was named John, whose father was a native of Scotland." I cannot find any evidence for the death of this John McDaniel in Amherst Co in 1765 (or any other time). Do you have further information on this? Now some interesting information that is new to me and that might shed some light on John, father of George McDaniel. In a will left by Joane Lloyd in Richmond Co. dated 8 January 1703, she mentions, among others, her daughter Susannah wife of William Phillips, and her granddaughter Susannah Phillips. Whitley's (1927) "History of the Rucker Family and their descendants" has Susannah Phillips as marrying John Rucker, son of Peter. Perhaps this is true, perhaps not. But, Joane Lloyd's will also mentions her grandson, John McDaniell. Is this our John, father of George et al.? Joane's grandson John McDaniell would have been the child of one of her daughters (Rebecca has been suggested) by her first husband, Roger Williams, and --?-- McDaniel, who would then be the immigrant (from Scotland/Ireland). It's important to remember that the Ruckers, McDaniels, Goffs, and others migrated within Virginia together. They were in King William/Spotsylvania/Orange Co. together (1739 list of tithables in Orange Co. had Cap. [John] Rucker, 4 tithes; John Gof, 3 tithes; Thomas Rucker, 3 tithes; Wm Rucker, 1 tithe; Peter Rucker, 6 tithes; John McDaniel, 2 tithes). Members of these families that we are following then moved on to Albemarle/Amherst Co. The Joane, whose will is mentioned above, was Joane Frith/Firth, daughter of Nathaniel and Elizabeth (--?--) Frith/Firth. Joane married first Roger Williams, then Samuel Wells, and lastly, Lewis Lloyd/Loyd. The Goff/Goffe/Gough family that relates to the McDaniels and Ruckers is covered in Wood's book. Margaret Goff, wife of George McDaniel, was the daughter of John and Anne --?-- Goff(e). I haven't found Anne's surname or a marriage for this couple. John's will (Amherst Co. W.B. 1, pp. 25-26, 29) was written 30 Nov 1762, probated 2 March 1763. Anne was still living at the time of John's death. Neither dau. Margaret McDaniel nor dau. Martha McDaniel (Martha was married to Henry McDaniel, possibly a brother of George) were mentioned in the will, but George McDaniel and John Rucker provided security. John's parents were Thomas and Margaret --?-- Goffe. Thomas died before 1726. Thomas' parents were --?-- Gough or Goffe and Margaret --?--. Margaret married 2nd John Prosser, who died in old Rappahannock Co. in 1671. I would guess that they were of English origin. While Wood's book is not presently available from The Rucker Society, if you are a member of the New England Historical and Genealogical Society you can borrow the book by mail from their lending library.
