The brief biographical sketches of some Amherst men came from a little booklet called "Amherst County Families and History" compiled from Henry Hardesty's Historical and Geographical Encyclopaedia first published 1883. It was edited, indexed, and available from: Jim Presgraves, ABAA Bookworm & Silverfish P.O. Box 639 Wytheville, VA 24382 I think he offers catalogues too. The lady at the Amherst Co. museum also told me that she had recently been in contact with this publisher and they were thinking of offering reprints of the book through the museum. She thought the price would be $20. It's a very thin, small book, but filled with information including Civil War soldiers, Geography, Revolutionary War soldiers, and Family Histories. If your ancestor is in there, it's definitely worth the money I think. The museum's web address is: http://members.aol.com/achmuseum/achmhis.htm
