Gary, I have noticed your Benjamin & Sofrona Hartless listed on the 1850 census report and I HAVE wondered about him. His age DOES line up more with the Benjamin Hartless whom the "Fare thee Well..." records as marrying a Mary L. Burch. Do you have a date of death for him? I ask, because by 1860 Mary L Hartless lives alone with her children, there is no male head listed in her household (though I guess he COULD be away from home for some reason). Then by 1870 Mary L appears in the household of a 60 year old "Lindsey Hartless" (this would be ABOUT the age Benjamin would be at this time - do you have another given name for Benjamin - was there a Lindsey in his line somewhere? Grasping at straws here :-) If something HAD happened to Sofrona, we would then have to ask what happend to all those children Benjamin & she have listed on the 1850? I think there were about 5, weren't there.? Mary L only has her Leanna, Emily, Henry and Andrew listed with HER. Also, did you notice the OTHER Benjamin listed on that 1850 census report? He lives in the house number right next to Mary L Hartless and her elderly Benjamin. He is 30 years old and lives with a Nancy Hartless age 50. This gets very confusing! Especially when none of the records of the Hartless researchers tfor the Amherst Co., area that I have seen list a Benjamin - more than ONCE. Any more ideas? Thanks so much for responding. PamT
