The following document is located in the Amherst County, VA courthouse Deed Book K, page 27 Be it known to all whom it may concern, that we David and James Garland of the County of Amherst, for divers good causes and considerations, do give, grant and deliver unto Zachariah Mitchell, George Mitchell, and Harrey Ann Mitchell or the survivors of them, the following property (viz) one pide cow & calf, & yearling, one Bay mare, two Feather Beds & furniture, Six chairs, one Table, one chest, one cupboard, two potts, & oven which property is now at John Mitchells, which is hereby conveyed to the aforesaid three children, in trust, for their maintenance & that of their mother's Betsy Mitchell, & the survivors, or their Heirs forever - Given under our hands this 29th day of December 1803. Teste - Edm. Holeman (signed David and Jas Garland) At a court held for Amherst County the 16th day of January 1804 -- This Deed of Gift was acknowledged in open Court by David S. Garland, one of the partners of David &James Garlend, and ordered to be Recorded. Teste.
