>From Amherst County Deed Book H, pg 54 Know all men by these presents that I Archelus Mitchell of the County of Amherst for and In consideration of love & tender Effection to my son Bowlin Mitchell I do by these presents Give and bequeath unto him and his heirs and assign forever a Negro Man Slave named Pompey also good feather Bed & furniture and Black Walnut Table which said property I do by these presents warrent and forever Defend unto him the said Bowlin Mitchell and his heirs and assignes forever also for the Same Cause and purpose as above mentioned I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Stilley Mitchell a Negro Woman Slave named Fanny also her Girl Child named Nicey a good feather Bed & furniture and Black Walnut Desk to her and her heirs and appers (?) forever which Said property I do by these presents warrent and forever defend unto her and her heirs forever In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 15th day of July 1796.
