>From Amherst County Deed Book H, pg 52 & 53 Know all men by these presents that I Archelus Mitchell of the County of Amherst for and in consideration of the sum of Doller to me in hand paid have bargained and Sold and by these presents have bargained Hold unto Thomas Mitchell of the same coutny a certain Negro boy named Caleb about ten years old to have & to hold the said Negro Caleb unto him and his heirs & assignes forever and I do by these presents for myself my heirs &c the above Sold Negro to warrent and forever defend from the claims of all persons whatsoever. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand given this 16th day of September 1796.
